Breakdown cover

Post by steve_earwig »

Seeing as how in a couple of weeks I'll be driving to England (there aint no avoiding it now! :( ) and I can't get fully comp insurance without paying a medium sized fortune, I thought the next best thing would be to get breakdown cover for the whole of Europe. 500Kn (£60) kerching! Thing is, it's me that's covered, not the car. So I have some questions: what happens if I drive my dad's car while I'm over there and it breaks down? Will they tow it to his house, or all the way back to Croatia? What if my Pug messes up and I drive my dad's car back to Croatia, only for it to go bang in the middle of Germany? Now where are they going to tow it? If they're happy to tow it to Croatia what happens if I buy a non-runner from ebay, ring them up and say "oh, my car's gone bang, can you tow it back to Croatia?" what are they going to do? If they'll town it back to Croatia then it opens up a completely new ball game - what if I buy a non-runner from ebay and I'm not even in England?

Depends on the cover I guess.

A lot of them would shift the car to the local garage. Even if this garage is not the specialist for your marque. And to get it to the trusted specialist garage will cost £££s.

It does say they'll get it fixed and I guess they'll do that locally, but how bad would it have to be before they gave up and towed it home? And it does say they'll tow it back to Croatia ("repatriation")in the blurb :?

It's a larf innit :cheesy:

I'd imagine they'd arrange a shipping / haulage company to get it home, and fly you?

Apparently I get a loaner with which to continue my journey  I really wouldn't like to put this to the test though...

21st - 28th April. I.e. just over 2 weeks away. I've still no idea if I'm going to have any "me" time though, between sorting the car out, visiting relatives, shopping and shiteseeing I'm gonna be pretty busy.

I still didn't figure out what tyres to get either :(

ste ive just joined the RAC, it covers me and not a specific vehicle.

if i'm in a mates car as a passanger 200 miles from home and his car breaks down, i can call the RAC and they will bring me home and the car i am in .

also if my car is in an accident and it cant be driven RAC will recover it for me and return it to my home :P

I "used" to be with Direct Line Rescue

That was until I found out they only recover you for first 10 miles, then you have to pay
