can I put all automatic ?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Presumably "one-hit" or "one-touch" or sequential as Pug would have it. I can't see it in the pic but I presume the driver's window switch has an "A" in it (for automatic I guess).

The trouble is the driver's door motor is different to the others, the automatic stuff is built into it, plus the switch is different obviously, so there's not much chance of doing it with standard parts. Even if you got the right-hand motor out of a right-hand drive car you'd have to rewire it and find another way of switching it. As for the rears, forget it.

I suppose you could put a timer circuit on all the doors but I think you might have 3 windows that are either open or shut but nothing in between. :(

Off to see if any other PSA car used the same stuff...

Possibly, I was in the garden at 8.30, I built a frame for the cukes and did a fair bit of raking but I thought perhaps I shouldn't overdo it.

There's no common parts :( However a lot of the motors look the same, just the cables and the bars look different. Also the Xantia switches look the same but they aren't. The Xantia appears to have a proper control box (rather than just a relay) on the diver's door window but I'm not sure how the switch works, the switch has an A on it but it seems to just be a 2-way contact switch - both are earthed until the switch is pressed one way or the other to give a live, and the motor itself just appears to be a simple motor with no electronics. It's a very long time since I drove one so I don't know how they work - anyone got any idea if they're just a two position switch or do you push them further for the one-touch?

Also, I've been looking at the 607 switch panel, that looks soooo familiar :? Trouble is the connector on the back of it is 26 way, rather than the 406's 16 way.

Oh to live in the UK and have access to breaker's yards

Nice and sunny here! Come to England!

Although I am sure it's much sunnier over on the continent...

I think the weather's about the same just now. I am coming to England in a couple of weeks but I won't have time for any breaker's yard fun, and I reckon at the start of May the weather I'll be coming back to will feel like stepping into an oven. Hence getting the garden sorted now, rather than when it's been baked into bricks and I need a jackhammer to plant anything.

i asked about this a while ago, the construction of the drivers switch is much different than the others, and the motor is definatley different.

thats quite a big just your asking, for the fronts it would be easier, but not easy, for the rears, not a chance.

Good luck though if you do attempt it :cheesy:

Is this for a Xantia?

I'm looking at the wiring diagrams (again  ), the 406 driver's window switch has 6 contacts in it (two normal and 2 automatic), whereas the Xantia only has 4, so I'm thinking that perhaps it depends on the duration of the press (I think Vauxhalls are like this) - short press all the way, long press to where you release the button. I know we have some (ex)Xantia owners on here, any comments fellers?

Btw you forgot something - along with changing the switches and the motors you'll also have to change some wiring.

Btw CJ, I just painted the gate, is that ok with you? :P
