Why I like my 406

1) It's a stylish alternative to the Mundano and Fecktra, which still looks fresh or modern.

2) It's economical to run, both in terms of fuel, maintenance and repairs.

3) I can fit my mountain bikes in the back easily, by the simple virtue of just dropping the rear seat.

4) It has that rare combination of tidy handling and a plush ride. The Mondieu handles well, but rides like a church pew on castors. The Vectra handles like a bag of sh1te and wobbles like a 1 legged cat trying to bury a turd on a frozen pond! (ie, not very well!)

5) It's boringly reliable. I need it to start first turn of the key, every time, with no nasty surprises, and for nigh on 2 years it's never failed to deliver.

6) Robert DeNiro drove one!

Its not a Mundano so it has to be good. I just love the way the 406 looks, still 1 of sexiest cars on our roads. Gives me a twitch when I see it. It handles and drives superbly, comfort is unbeleivably good. I was thinking of selling mine and buying something non Peugeot for under £5k, but I just cant think of anything else I'd rather be driving espec a Diesel. If I wanted Petrol I'd prob buy Evo or Scooby but then I'd be lucky to get 20mpg, I get 33mpg in my 406 when I thrash the tits off it. ;)

1) She still looks stylish and sleek. Here lines seem never to age. Just check out the Mundano from the period... that looks so old and tired.

2) Great handling, great economy, HUGE boot!

3) Munches those motorway miles wonderfully

4) She starts first time every time, regardless of weather.

5) Has never let me down in the 4 years I've had her and the previous owner who ordered her from Peugeot says he never had a single problem either

6) Ever since they came out, I've always wanted one

1) Stylish! Not as stylish as a 406 Coupe, but it's better than even some of the "new" models out there

2) Diesel - reliable as hell and my particular one pulls like a train... could probably pull a train too!!! Hope it gets me to Denmark and back in three weeks time without hassle. In fact I have no doubt that it will!

3) SPACE!!! I am 6 foot tall and I NEED to sit far away from the steering wheel... with legroom left to spare at the back behind me!

4) The "X factor"... the thing that makes it something rather special. Nothing you can put your finger on, but it's something that makes it stand out from the crowd.

i had a 406 2.0l petrol for two years and it never missed a beat .......... until the oil filter came loose and the engine seized .......... about a grand later and all was fine again ........... for a couple of weeks then it got nicked

i then got the 3.0l v6 coupe had that 7 months and the only problems i have had is the coilpack going and my speedo deciding it doesnt want to work sometimes................. it certaily looks a lot better than the latest offerings from peugeot

they should give all there future design work to pininfarina instead of a group of in house designers on lsd

I saw it, I sat in it, I drove it like 5km, then I bought it.

It just pulled me like a magnet!

Year later I bought another one which I still have. The 406 gives me a smile that even my 745 BMW can't give. It takes every thrashing on the road I throw at it. It looks awesome! And to top it off it is the 2nd most reliable car from the many many i've had! (405 was more reliable)

I've fallen out with mine

We had an argument about the cost of some repairs and now we're not speaking to each other.

The car is locked in my garage for the weekend without use.

I went in the garage yesterday to get some fish fingers out the freezer and I just gave a moody sideways glance at the car and 'tutted' at it.

So there.

Good idea for a topic!

Why I like my 406:

1) It's a 406. What better reason is there?

2) It gets a lot of attention. All I had to do was tint the back lights, add a couple of small badges, spray the bumpers and dashboard, and disconnect the sound damping on the dump valve. About £30 spent.

3) Its handling never fails to put a smile on my face. There is just something about the way a 406 drives that I can't quantify, yet if I could find out what it is I could bottle it and sell it and retire to my own private island.

4) Neither of the 406s I have owned has ever, ever been mistaken for a taxi or a chav chariot. For a start it's a 406 so it is immune to being Nova Boyish or Chavish. It is equipped with mastered "Nova Away" materia.

It's a wolf in sheep's clothing....allows you to humiliate boy racers infront of their mates / girlfriends.

Goes like hell when you need it to and a very comfortable cruiser all the other times.

Like so many others have said - starts first time every time.
