My brother's just down the road from Duxford and not too far from the Shuttleworth Collection, so I think he has that one covered


I'm on Skype with my brother now - it's a single-stage supercharger from a Merlin 3, as fitted to (according to Wiki) Spitfire I, Defiant I, Hurricane I, Sea Hurricane I, Battle I. Shuttleworth have two, one is fitted to a Hurricane they have.

He didn't tell them about the serial number because he's worried it'll be from a war grave and the MoD/relatives will take it off him I told him if it was part of a war grave I wouldn't want to keep it anyway but he's not having it

Exactly, it's probably not worth very much (I found a two-stage for sale for 1,600 quid but it looks like it might actually work, rather than just a corroded lump) and you can hardly keep it on the coffee table, so if finding out more detail involves surrendering it for something respectful then so be it.
