£2.25 SUMP WASHER!

Post by panadero »

My local stealer has just quoted me £2.25 incl VAT for ONE 14 mm copper washer. Is this a record?
So I decided instead to buy a bulk set (140 pcs) of washers off ebay. This includes 15x14mm washers suitable for
406 sump plug. 15 would cost £33.75 at current stealer prices. At this rate in a
couple of years the stealer price for one washer will be up to the £3 level. For members' information,

That's funny, I changed the sump washer on mine 2 days ago and that was the first time I've ever changed one (I've never had one leak, before you ask), err, it was free from my mate in the car spares shop :?

I think it was 16mm...

i dont think normal washers will do the job to be honest.

the standard copper waser is about 3mm thick and it squashes to about 1mm as you bolt the sump bolt tight, a standard steel washer will not squash when you tighten it. so i think a standard steel washer may leak oil past it becuse the copper washer squashing inbetween makes the seal air tight. :?

i could be wrong tho,

It can't be steel 'cos it's got to have some give to it, and not rubber I guess as this would either go hard or squeeze out. The real thing is round in section, squeezing flat as mentioned.

And there I was looking at this thing thinking about how much money I could have saved on a wedding ring - "It's red gold dear, very unusual and expensive" :supafrisk:

The last filter I bought was from the stealer, it came with a new sump washer. £8 from memory?
