not much differnce tho,
Ihad a facelift one heater matrix went in it common fault on thems,
there a Bastid to change so i By passed it with some copper pipe,
the thing used to freeze up on the inside in the winter totaly undrivable unless you was an Eski mo,
shame tho it was a very clean car good engine but it was Thirsty,

Re: New cars that will run on vegetable oil
The back axle is supposed to be a weak spot but none of ours gave that problem.
There was a big difference on the dash, the mk1 and 2 had different dashes, more of a difference than the d8/9 406.
Another problem i remember now about the 405, and every one ive been in. The speedometer, its as if they are in jelly, it doesnt point at the speed it wobbles in the general area of that speed.

the 405 wasnt my cuppa tea but a spose somepeople liked them.
they was something iused as a temp car,
iwas more of a Fan of fords and vaux cavs back then so a spose pugs where like Garlic bread to me then,
iwasnt a fan of the 406 either tbh,
My mate dumped this one in my garden and my 53 plate Laguna had Expired electronicly so i got the 406 off him.
after aweek the 406 had Grown on me,
iwill get an Mpv for lugging round the kids and me dogs but ithink iwill keep the 406 on till it falls to bits thats if ican sort out the rear end sway problem its got

The right 405 looks good, my uncles i thought was the buisness, it still sounded like a tractor but looked great, and as verified with the older one can indeeed hold a calf.
But the speedometer surely you must have noticed its vagueness and shakyness.

You didn't like the styling? I thought the 405 looked great especially the black one.
The 90s were quite a bland time overall for car makers

people say to me sometimes the d9 406 is the new 4o5 idont see no resemblance,
the 406 as that Bmw look of a dash the 405 resembled renault dashes of the 90s
back end on the 406 does look abit boring on the 406 tho imo thats its only downfall front end is the best looking thing puggy couid of come up with its perfect apart from the horse shoe
the d8s look a bit 405 ish tho if you squint a bit

In which case they'll be a D6 and D7 ;)FarmerPug wrote:was there a d8 and d9 405. my two uncles had one of each.
The older 405 was a good reliable workhorse, got treated like shite and went on all day.
The newer one was a well specced car, my dad borrowed it one day to go to work and the engine blew, timing belt was the issue, the second engine was a bad engine which had head gasket issues, the third engine was great, that car went like a clock after it.
I preferred the look and interior of the newer one, it was black, with allows, fogs, and a spoiler it looked very good back then, especially compared to my dads carina of the time.
I'd love a 405, can;t find a decent one though

Re: New cars that will run on vegetable oil
I had a 1995 GTX 1.9TD & it was great apart from the heater problem. Something was broken on the heater box & it would only blow cold air as the temperature couldn't be controlled from the panel. Know what you mean about the looks though. Anything above a GLX on the facelift saloons came with the Mi16 bumpers & door mouldings (but not the wheelarch extensions) & this made them look a lot better than the standard models.FarmerPug wrote:The right 405 looks good, my uncles i thought was the buisness, it still sounded like a tractor but looked great, and as verified with the older one can indeeed hold a calf.

What pump did the 605 diesel use? They had the 2.1 engine, but am wondering whether they'd have the Bosch pump due to their age. Problem is, 605s are like rocking horse poo nowadays. Fantastic drive though.
