Hi all
My CD Interchanger in my 02 GTX HPi isn't working when I press the CD Button on the Dash unit or the SRC button on the stalk.
I can eject the CD Cartridge so assume there is power.
Also checked all fuses, all AOK.
Have tried CD's in all of the 6 slots?
(Clarion with JBL Amp)
Any ideas..................

This is going to sound really, really condescending, but...
...are you sure the CDs are in the cartridge the right way round?
It's something a lot of us have done. Try flipping the discs round and pop it back in.
If it still doesn't work, you might find that if you pull the head unit out of the slot, that one of the three coloured connectors in the top-most slot on the back has come loose. I can't remember which of the three controls the CD multichanger, but that could well be what's wrong.

The unit in the dash is the head unit; you need a pair of BBQ skewers or knitting needles - push them into the two little release holes on the faceplate of the head unit until you hear a "click", then put your fingers inside the tape slot and pull the whole lot out.
If it's not one of the connections on the back being loose, then it could be a cable going into the CD changer unit itself, I guess, or the actual changer cartridge.

The Coupe is a great car, the Pininfarina styling is timeless - nobody can believe the design dates back to 1996.
Mine's being a rotten bugger to me at the moment though; just got back from a quick run across town and back, and there's a horrible screeching/scraping noise from one of the rear wheels Garage on Monday

It doesn't say anything e.g if it's on Radio it displays the Radio Data i.e. Station, RDs etc,.... I have tried pressing the SRC button on the Stalk and the CD Changer button on the Head Unit - nothing happens at all?

2 faulty things at the same time ? looks difficult to me ..
I bet there is some connections/plugs that are not well connected on the radio or on the interchanger in the boot of the car .. because i bet the radio isn't detecting it ..
Another solution is to use the peugeot planet 2000 .. if it is in the system it will a appear in there .. well in my 406 estate does appear..

Hi, I have owned two 406'6 and the last one came with this problem. It seems that water or condensation gets into the socket of the main changer unit because of its position in the boot.It is no good trying to use a changer from a different model than a 406 - it wont be recognised. I have one fully working for a 205 if any one wants one.
To go back to the 406 changer - if it has power but is not recognised then it is likely that water has got in as I said before.
If this is the case you can have it repaired at Audio- Tech Systems in Birmingham on Chester Rd. Nr Castle Bromwich.
Or you can buy a nearly new one off me. I took it out of my last 406 before it went to the auction in the sky.
Hope this helps.
My car is bone dry and clean near the CD Changer in the boot, and when I took it apart the inner workings of the Changer are spotless - but one of the Ribbon that goes from the Circuit Board near the connector to the main circuit board has a small nick out of it So am going to try and replace it see what happens.......
If anyone has an old knackered one with the 'ribbon intact' - or can get the Ribbon out without damaging it - get back to me
I'll let you know how I get on

Hi Jerry,
I bought it new from Robins & Day 3years ago for £249. It was in my 406 for a year before the car went to auction.
I think £50 plus postage would be fair.
