WANTED- aftermarket air filter for my 2.2 petrol

i'm after an aftermarket air filter for a 2.2 petrol please. something like k&n would be sooper
Past car - D9 2.2 SRi estate, sleeper, family wagon & general hauler!

i want a more free flowing filter.

What makes you think that the one on there is restricting the air flow? If you think it is, take it for a breef spin with no air filter to see if there is any difference.
K&N type filters will make little or no difference, as you will be drawing hot air from the engine bay. Do you feel that the car was designed with an air intake that you can improve or is restricting the air flow? Why would manufactorers do that?

They did a test on this on the tv. The outcome was it made no difference at best or lost hp at worst.

Spend your hard earned pennies on something more worth wile. Like a good service or perhaps brakes.

Not this again.

Panel air filters sit inside the existing airbox, in direct replacement of the factory-fitted paper element. Performance benefits may be found, because the filter is less restrictive. Definitely does not draw any more warm air into the engine than the standard filter does, because it's enclosed in the original airbox.

Cone air filters replace the existing airbox, and draw in hot air from the engine bay. Performance benefits will only really be found if you can shield the cone filter in some way, to prevent the air it receives from being too hot. Avoid these ones unless you really know what you're doing.

Enclosed induction kits replace the existing airbox and air intake pipe, drawing cold air from the front of the car, rather than through the wheel arch. Performance benefits may be found.

No2lurch is talking about a replacement panel filter. It's a perfectly legitimate upgrade, though with the panel elements, you may not notice a huge difference.

Interesting, but is it worth it? We used to do lots of stuff like this with very mixed results for quite large sums of money. I often feel its better to enjoy the allready good performance a 2.2 petrol has.

The enclosed induction kit with the cold air feed from the front of the car is meant to help by increasing the volume of nice, clean, cold air entering the engine. The downside is that because the ECU detects more air, the engine will burn more fuel. This does increase the power output of the engine, but at the cost of some of your fuel economy.

There's someone on the Coupe Club forums who has just fitted a K&N Apollo enclosed induction kit, and has noticed a performance increase.

The other benefit of moving the air intake away from the wheel arch and putting it somewhere sensible, is that you are less likely to drown your car by going through a puddle.

Try Euro car parts.I got my K&N panel filter from them,it cost £39,& £8 for a cleaning kit,which lasts for years.They dont do a K&N for the 406,but they do one for the Xantia & its the same air filter.I checked the part numbers on their website for the Xantia & 406 & most of the filters are the same.
I got my K&N as i`ve had mine remapped,but also as i`ve had the car for nearly 5 years,& withthe milage i do,i`ve saved money now when i service it as you just wash ^ re oil the K&N. :)
