Aircon......How much does it effect MPG?

After going to Woburn Safari Park in an un air equipped car, and it being an extremely hot day, and going into one of the enclosures where you had to have all your windows up, and also being extremely busy, so you had no choice but to go round in a procession, and being stuck in there for over an hour, then yes, i'd also never go back to a car without Air Con

I mean thursday, I spent 12 hours in my lorry, and had the windows down all day, yet i'd of killed for Air Con as I was sweating my rocks off!

I did 150 miles today, and i never opened the window once, i set the air direction to up, and the fan speed to 1 with the air con on the inside is very nice and calm. wheras with the window open its not nice, its just very loud and not much cooler.

but on the issue of air con affecting mpg here is another one.
Someone once said electric windows will ruin your fuel economy because of the wheight. definatley very obsessive.

idont mind the Exercise type wind up windows put there a pain at times,

manual windows are ok in something thats supposed to be basic like my jeep, or a really old car. but a new car without them is just not acceptable, especially when you want to open or close the ones one on the passenger side.
It just seems to be a bit tight to worry about it. Is a hdi 110 LX really going to have any noticeable difference in fuel economy over a hdi 110 executive?

not much differnce ishouid think,
possibly the exec is slightly heavier with having the leather seats and the amp etc
Tbh My lx compared to the SE one ihad was slightly differnt on mpg but the lx is Remapped and has had the cat removed so idont know if that made the diffence, around 6mpg differnce not alot realy but there was a -
big differnce in power tho hence why ikept the older one ,
ithink the Hdi is very good on mpg in what ever car it lives in im impressed with the mpg on them so far,
if it was a petrol 406 idont think iwouid of kept it this long

Tbh idont know the actual figures,
the chap that done my remap has his own buisness my mate knows him so he got him to have a tinker with it,
alls iknow its gone as far as itl go too get anymore out of it wouid require bigger turbo etc etc, im happy with it as it is tho

it was remapped before but it was only basic remap,
it can shift for a deisel and sometimes iforget its a deisel,

its thirsty tho if you take it over 100mph thats if you want to get it too that quickly,

im not a boy racer or out like that but ive let it have a gallop on a Empty motorway all ican say is the hdi aint no pussy once its wound up,
ilike the extra power for hill climbs in all honesty tho,

get it re mapped mate,
if you do a lot of hill climbs its worth it maybe its less strain on the engine in the long run too maybe.

i live between 2 hills so when i pull out from the house either way there is a hill to go up.

Im sorounded by hills and valleys My old 2.3 galaxy wouidnt climb them unless iwas in 2nd,
the 406 is good on hills even standard they dont seem to strain as much as some petrols,
