My dad had a 305 diesel years ago. Replaced his Hyundai Stellar that didn't quite live up to the "mk6 Cortina" claims, and started him on XUDs for many years

Great looking cars in my opinion, like a non-pretentious E21 / E30.

The vans lived on a bit longer, Newtownabbey council had a fleet of them.

The 309 I liked too, a neighbour had one. I believe they had the Simca engine petrol and the XUD too?

Are mk1/2 Mondeo drivers bad drivers, or is there an issue with those bumpers disintegrating in sunlight?

same as any other car driver a spose,

the mk1 mk2 mondeo bumper is made out of foam and a thin shell,
theres not much support for the bumpers so its all weakness caused through vibration not actual driver niglect!
Ford desighned them to disintigrate safetly causing less injury to a child etc,
they was a good safe car good desighn but the bumpers are weak, ive had loads of mondeos with bad bumpers there only £25 brand new to replace but people wouid sooner have gaffa tape,

the foam in the mondeo bumpers is simialar too what comes in them cans for filling gaps in walls etc if youve used or seen that stuff you will get apicture of what a mondeo bumper is ,

sort of a crash helmet desighn

The foam in a can doesn't seem to be strong enough to hold a piece of car bodywork together

The Honda bumpers are deformable. Parking was tight in my old street (as in last couple of weeks ) and I reversed right up against a tree. Drove it out next morning and had a look and there was a bit of a dent. Bit annoyed as I only had the car a couple of weeks. But then later in the day looked and the bump had miraculously popped out!
Bit of a scuff that polished out no problem.

my cousin had one of the first mondeos and it never cracked the bumpers, the mk1 facelifted ones though all seem to have brown parcel tape on them.
A rare car now, id say there is more sierras about than mk1 mondeos.

Theres a 4x4 one in the Transport Museum, because some girl from here was in the team that drove a load of Fords from London to New York across the Arctic.
