Central Locking Dead!!!

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Central Locking Dead!!!

Post by Brettski »

Hello, ive a 99 HDI estate
Normally id use the key in the drivers door to open all doors (keyfob button missing)
I have noticed before it totally stopped working that sometimes when i lock the doors (drivers lock) a few times it `bounced'?
Also the hazzard lights come on whenever i open the drivers door - related??
Anyways its a right pain to unlock all the doors and boot by hand now
Any help/advice much Appreciated

Thanks

Brett

Hi Brettski,

May not be related, but can you check the drivers' and front passengers' footwell carpets to see if they are damp/wet? Also, check the spare wheel well in the boot hasn't got water in it? Water in the carpets and spare wheel well can sometimes give weird electrical gremlins, and is a problem best sorted sooner rather than later.

Also, the central locking will "bounce" if you try to lock the car while any of the four doors, the boot, or the fuel cap is open (even slightly) - you need to ensure all six of these are properly closed.

You should try to replace the missing button on your keyfob. I'm sure there's instructions on doing that on the forums somewhere.

Welcome aboard, by the way! :cheesy:

Hello highlander,

Ive checked the carpets and the boot and they are dry, but that could be due to the scorching weather were getting right now huh :D
Would a fuse or relay be at fault here or maybe a faulty door lock?

Cheers anyway
