Battery Charge Fault & Other Strange Things

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Well it's D Day today. The car went in this morning to (hopefully) get the air con fixed. Unfortunately, when I told the guy what Doggy said about a leak preventing the compressor for kicking in, he said he'd already tested that by re-pressurising it & it still didn't work.

Dreading a phone call now to say it's going to cost even more than the £350 I'd already figured when I thought I needed a new compressor.

Got the phone call this morning to say she's fixed. Couldn't find a leak anywhere (which I couldn't understand as it lost so much pressure when he re-pressurised it the other day), but there was a loose electrical connection which he's now fixed - hopefully that was what was bringing up the battery charge fault too.

She's won a reprieve - for now - but she better behave over the next few weeks or else...

Good news stu, time to chill out and keep her. :D
Btw i had a look on planet and my memory wasnt good re cruise control,i said i thought it needed turning on on bsi & engine ecu..lies lies lies!
You only have cruise option in engine ecu..not bsi. so your ok there..the option we saw on your(and mine) bsi was survient_vitesse ..thats the aweful speed limiter where if you go over 70 its starts screeching-so annoying..keep it absent!
Have you had the cowl off to find where to plug cruise stalk in? if not ill try and look at mine soon & take a pic
Pm me you email address.
Any joy with door lights? did you check the bsi fuses? should have 6 blade fuses on it.

Great news, waue1978 8)

wasp - FWIW, I was looking at Scrutim's 99 HDi 110 at the weekend - his didn't have cruise listed as an engine or BSI option, (though it did have the obnoxious overspeed warning you mentioned). Compared it with my fully-mux 2002 - it has a section on 'customer options', (which include cruise), listed under BSI configuration.

I was fairly sure I remembered your post - if I'd known it could be done I might not have spent 4 months looking for an exec.....

Should've known it wouldn't last. Air con stopped working again, so went back in to get the leak traced. Got the phone call earlier that they found it & it's weeping from the condensor. New condensor for just over £100, but the cost including labour & regas brings it up to £370!

Already spent too much on it to be worth getting rid so got to get it done really. On the plus side, at least I've finally found somebody reliable to pick up my SRi interior (Glendale Transport) & ironically they're substantially cheaper than the other 3 a**holes that let me down so I've sent a few quid extra to the seller to go towards making up for all the aggro & he's well chuffed now, so I'll be able to recoup a few quid when I sell on the bits I don't need.

Anybody want a half leather interior for their saloon?

Doggy posted a How-To when he did his one:

viewtopic.php?f=10&t=7606&p=74908&hilit ... ser#p74908

But to be honest, after looking at it, I'm better off paying the pros to do it as they can get any wrong parts changed quicker & easier, they'll do the regas & they know my car inside out! The part itself only costs £100, but I think it is the part you're talking about. Thanks for the offer, but I'll get the new one anyway. Apparently my one looks undamaged, but when they put the dye in again they could just see it weeping through the small hole.

The front seats will be the ones from my car:

They're in pretty good condition. No big holes, but on close inspection there are a few very small light scuffs to the leather. Drivers seat squab sides feel softer than the passenger seat sides, but they look identical. Being very fussy to be honest. On a scale of 1-10 I'd rate them as about 7-8.

Rear seats I haven't seen as I've bought the SRi interior unseen, but I'm told it's mint so would expect the rear seat to be pretty well immaculate. Same for the door cards as I haven't seen them either, but I haven't decided whether to change them or not. Will depend on the condition of the SRi ones compared to mine & whether I like the blue wood look in my car or prefer the black ash. I've also got the trims I got from Farmerpug which I've sprayed (with varying degrees of success) in the same colour as my car. If anybody wants to make an offer, they're welcome, but should hopefully get a better idea of what I'm doing when it arrives here sometime next week.
