Only went for £2700, and for what is probably 4k's worth of car

Got a text whilst bidding, distracted me, put my a bid of £2650 in whilst sitting at £2350 with 15 secs to go
Got outbid, and couldn't get another bid in quick enough :(
If it'll make you feel any better, check his feedback in a week or so & you may find another neg added for a sh*te car that could've been for the 407. I always used to get caught like that - usually losing items by a couple of £ due to being at work when they finished. Now I use the sniper tool on www.goofbay.com. A little unnerving at first as to use it you need to give Goofbay your Ebay ID & password, but I've never had any security breaches on my Ebay account yet.

I'd also be willing to bet that you've now got your heart set on a 407 & probably have quite a few now on your Ebay watch list...

You lucky thing - my Mrs hasn't a clue with cars. If anybody asked her what car we have she tells them "a red one".

Are there any X-Line 407s in your budget? Read before that they come ready de-fapped & think they still have a pretty good spec on them.

Ahhh, I was trying to think what car it was without the fap

Just trying to find out what spec a Zenith is at mo, as there is a 2005 one that might go cheap

That confirms the lack of FAP in the X-Line models & explains the logic behind it. They still seem to have the same CO2 level so tax should be the same as a FAP equipped car.

Is this the Zenith you were looking at:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2005-PEUGEOT-407- ... 2a1016ce27

Another seller with crap feedback & judging by the colour coded moulding on the front bumper & black ones everywhere else, it's had a bumper replacement. Zenith spec looks good though - pretty much the same as the Executive from what I can see, but pretty sure they still have the FAP on them.

I'm usually put off by anybody looking for deposits of more than £50, but everything else on the ad looks legit. He's clued up about the car & honest enough to mention something as small as the rear window switch. He's followed my usual route of 4 pictures from the 4 corners for the exterior giving a good view of the whole car. Also no towbar so the rear end should still be in good shape.

The feedback percentage isn't great, but his 1 neg came from somebody who looks to be a bit of a tit going by the (private) rating.

That may not be the cheapest 407 going, but it looks to be an honest one. Don't forget that it's FAP equipped though so leave yourself a small safety cushion to cover the service or removal of it.

That one looks spot on if you have the funds. Quite rare as most people went for 1.6 & 2.0 & most 2.2s ended up with automatic gearbox. He's had it on since 23rd March so may take an offer on it. Plus, if you drive up to have a look, he's also got a 1.6HDi saloon on an 07 with a few more miles for less than £4k. Trader too, so there should be a bit more peace of mind (in theory).

Have an appointment with the bank in morning, so will see what they say first

Rather surprised, as insurance is same cost as a quote I put in for that 2.0 yesterday

Does look nice & I bet the twin turbo HDi's a peach, definitely the engine to go for in a 407. I'd really miss my armrest tho....
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Appointment with bank went rather promisingly, and filled out application
Just got to wait for checks to be done, then get the decision

Got another 2.2HDi in mind, but ain't tempting fate at mo in case goes pear shaped
Can't believe it only costs half as much to insure a 170bhp twin turbo diesel, compared to my 110
£347 I got quoted
£645 for mine

Hate to sell the old girl, but....................

If you don't mind me saying so, you seem to have drifted some way off your original cat C, 110 HDi rebuild project course.....

Mind you, I started my 406 hunt by looking at a V-reg 110 GTX, then got tempted by:
Cruise
Levver
More oomph
and in my innocence, I thought Com2000 stalks were nicer to use.

My budget was 2k initially

However a chat to the bank sees my repayments only going up by £17 over an extra two years
Budget is now around 5k

Requirements have changed somewhat lol

407 SW
Must have pan roof
2.2 hdi
The higher the spec the better

Again I can't believe the saving I'll could make on insurance and road tax and have more power lol
