outside temperature tomfoolery

Is there a way of cleaning the sensor for outside air temperature? It most certainly wasn't 41 degrees Celsius at 3am last Saturday in Dieppe and it's been saying it's all sorts of odd temperatures. Advice appreciated!

Don't bother trying to clean it - contact your dealer and ask them for a new one; they're under £20. I think they have an effect on the digital climate control, rather than just being a purely informational item for the driver, so it's probably well worth doing.

What I did on my old saloon (RIP) was to buy a replacement wing mirror from a scrappy, and got a garage to swap it over while I was in getting something else serviced. Scrappy charged £20, the garage swapped it for nowt extra (they charge per hour, and it took less than an hour for all the work it was in for (including the mirror swap), so I only paid one hour's labour fees). The sensor in the replacement mirror worked just fine. The whole car went to that scrappy last week though

its in the passangers side wing mirror . i have a spare sensor inside a spare wing mirror i have in the shed.

the problem you have is if you replace it you have to cut the wire in the mirror and solder the new cable onto the wireing,

OR change the whole mirrors electric bits and keep the cable in the genuine place.

if you want i can remove the plug for the mirror with the sensor still attached and you can either cut and solder it or replace the whole wire kit for mirror

the sensor is £22 from a dealer

Just found this thread as my '03 406 is reading about 10C too low. Can someone go through the steps of replacing the sensor, including removing the glass? Thanks.

Mine seems to go a bit funny when it's cold and wet, e.g. displaying minus temperatures and "ICE ALERT" when it clearly wasn't that cold. But when it's dry it's fine. Could water ingress be a problem?

no water ingress cant be the problem its a sealed sensor.

you need to replace it . but doing this involes a lot of stripping down if you dont solder the wires of the new one inside the mirror itself.

cutting the old one inside the mirror and soldering the new one into place is the best way

anyone thought of using out side temp sensors off fords yet ?

they just clip behind the front bumper on them, ithink its daft cars having them in the mirrors.

well anway ive got a few ford ones knocking about if anyone wants to try it
