The Repo man cometh and taketh away

A kinda co-worker colleague friend runs a business and has his works Van on a Lease Purchase agreement.

Last night the van (and kit) was taken from his driveway in the early evening without so much as a knock at the door, a noise, nothing

Turns out the finance company has gone into receivership and because the vehicle is still one of their assets and they have title to it then they came and took it away

He's managed to find it now (50 miles away) by contacting the receivers but had to pay the remaining balance in pound notes to get it back including a recovery fee (it was either that or re-finance it privately but still pay the receiver in full).

Imagine how many punters got up this morning to no car or no van thanks to these people and are then forced into finding alternative finance at short notice

Aparently they use the 'snatch it' tactic to prevent people hiding the vehicles or becoming awkward about handing it back. It's not strictly legal but then they have your vehicle so what are you going to do about it.......

what if you keep it in a locked garage (which the insurance company is always led to believe )

Dosent matter where they a kept they have the right to take it its as good as theres,

there not allowed to break in and take stuff tho withought a court order,
My mate had his van reposesd and the came with the police to take it as he was stood there with a Baseball bat,
he only owed them a couple of hundread quid and they wouidnt wait a day they wanted it there and then,

they get a Buzz out of taking stuff ,

over in Scotland the law is differnt so im told the baliffs can be arested if they go to someones house

thats one thing with these old 406s they dont cost the earth to buy, there is no need for finance with them.

there heavy on the insurance thats the only down fall, ican insure a 8 seater mpv for less than half the price of the 406

why is it so high, sure the ncap test results were shite but so was everything from that time, its not as if its a ball of fire in terms of performance.
Must be the equipment, its much better equipped than other saloons of the time.

Lets be honest the 406 Ncap results are pathetic.
the facelift d9 is not much better either,

Maybe there high because the 406 is common for taxis,
there wasnt many insurers that wouid actualy insure my car the confused .com came up with a round 7 insurers any other car wouid of came up with 2 pages of Quotes,

im not arsed about the insurance being high tbh the economy sort of balances that out this thing is not far off the same mpg as amini im happy with that

the facelift d9 is not much better either,

the d9 gets 1 star extra, which made it justifiable as it was no worse than my fiat.
i wonder what you could do in order to improve the safety, the a pillar needs toughened for sure in the crash it deforms which is a bad sign, the bulhead area needs reinforced, as for the floorpan.
insurance is stupid, my 406 is cheaper to insure than both the fiat and clio, but oddly its in a higher group than a 320d.

I should add that the Van was still being paid on time every month but it was the lease company that went bust and fetched all their vehicles back so it wasn't 'repossessed' as such.

Bailiffs are c**ts.

Had a £30 parking ticket a few years back. Phoned them up, gave them card details to take money payday. A day or two later I wake up to go to work (pre-6am) only to find my car's been clamped. They came about 3am to do it, and left a note saying if £500-odd wasn't paid by 9am they'd tow it.

So I phone them up and they eventually come round to undo the clamp at 11am! Got me a disciplinary at work, that did.

I used to know a bailiff, his name really was Muscle (Although now it's many years later and I'm not sure it was actually spelled like that)
