Sat nav display

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Sat nav display

Post by kasper »

Hi

Now the Sat nav display on my pug has gone, LCD part has lines running down it so is now unreadable. My question is, as I will never use the sat nav part can I replace the display with a normal one ?

Thanks

I can't answer your question, but if you have no intentions of using the sat nav, I'm sure some of the guys on here would be interested in buying the components.

I'd say not - given the extra information which is required to display the Sat Nav (even if it doesn't work) - Try and get a screen from a late model car at a breakers yard!

i would say it works .. i have the B screen and on my BSI i have the option to enable the SAT NAV and i don't have it ...so if you do change for a B screen and it doesn't work .. go to the BSI and disable SAT NAV and code VIN the display or the other way round, CODE VIN the display first then disable SAT NAV This 2 options is on the " telecodification " or " tele coding " or " programming "( maybe this is another word ..mine at the time was in portuguese and in the portuguese version says " telecodificação " which i just translate to that cuz i don't know any other synonym ) option in the main menu of the BSI.

Ok, thanks for the replies. To be honest I wouldn't know if the rest of the equipment worked having just got the car. I guess i'll trawl the web and flea bay and try to find a replacement, if not try a normal one and see what happens

Thanks again

ive been looking a sat nav display for the past 3 months to no avail, theres one on there for £100 but there is not a chance its worth that.
if you want to put a type b display in it works because ive switched between b and c a few times and they work (although the type c had missing lines)
i have 2 spare type b displays.

why type C displays get missing lines ? doesn't it use the same type of display material then the B display ?

Type C display is higher resolution than the Type B display - this is because the Type C needs to be able to display some basic pictures representing sat-nav instructions.

so, basically not worth the money , if it will just die prematurely, but it looks cool on the other hand ..

Can't it be fixed ?

but they tried to put something that has a lot of power into a small little LCD, that's why they " burn out " ..

it was discussed on the coupe club, someone suggested using small wires (such as the individual wires in CAT5) to solder it but it seems quite difficult to solder to where the ribbon goes, or else you can apply heat to the ribbon to try and warm up the adhesive to make a contact again. But i tried that aswell with a soldering iron attachment and it didnt work either so i dont really think it can be repaired.
