Well, i jacked the car up yesterday in order to get a good look at the actuator.. i tried to pull it by hand and it wouldn't budge. So i levered it back and forth with a big screwdriver and a bucket load of penetrating fluid. And it slowly started moving, i took off all the intercooler pipes that i could get to within the hour that i had to play with it.. and put them back on to be sure everrything was tight! Took it out for a test drive and... ive got some of my power back. I can now hear the turbo spool up... but i cant hear it spool up beyond 2500 RPM. So i'm wondering if the actuator needs to be adjusted!!?? What i've done to the actuator hasn't made any difference to the cold start issue by the way.

Any starting problem with the XUD is easy enough to sort.

Any air leaks? Check for leaks around the injectors, are the leak off lines weeping? If they are then they're letting air into the system over night, meaning there's no fuel in the pump when you're trying to start the engine, the pump spends it first few cranks trying to pull fuel into the pump.

Next is heater plugs, put a jump lead from the battery +ve terminal to the heater plug feed rail, give it 15 seconds to warm the plugs, then try cranking the engine.

Thanks. That all seems to make sense. My car does it ALL the time though, even if i drive to the shops, grab a sausage roll and a newspaper and come out and start it.... it still takes a good few seconds to start up with full throttle! The idle is fast too... 1000RPM. I'm gonna put it on the ramp at work and have a good look around it again and check for leaks around the injectors and fuel lines. I obviously want to sort it properly... but cant i put a one way check valve on the fuel line for now!?

You've already got a check valve, it's inside the hand primer. Maybe that's leaking air along the seams?

Get hold of some clear hose and replace the pipework in the engine bay, makes it a million times easier to see what the fuel is doing. (I chopped up an old airline pipe and used that)

Problem solved... the muppit who had the car before me wound the fueling down on the pump to save himself some fuel money.... he inadvertantly caused his own cold start issue though.. which knackered the battery and starter motor, so what did he save himself!!??

His 405 was a bit relectant to start, mostly down to low cranking speed / tired starter motor. The 306 he got next, 'flew over' in comparison.
my 405 was the same, and my 306 also started in half a turn lol
