Most on a car, mmmm,

1999 406 cost me £1800 five years ago, so was 7 years old
1999 Vectra cost me £1000 8 years ago, so was 4 years old ( yes £1000, but a "tad" ruff  )
1993 Rover 620 was £1250 11 years ago, so was 7 years old

Before that
I paid £2500 for a Manta
£2500 for a Sierra XR4x4 2.8i
£2995 for a Nova SR
£650 for a Nova SR with a GTE engine in it
Can't remember how much I paid for the others, so guess £2995 is the most
Well, wouldn't of been if the bank had processed my re-mortgage quicker, as I would of bought that 407 SW XS Sport for £4995
1999 D8.5 HDi GLX - Sold :(

2007 Mondingo Zetec - I seek forgiveness :( Bring back my 406

The Wifely Person spent £850 on my first car (1.4 Renault Clio mk.1 3-door - sporty, but f*cked from the outset)
When I passed my test, we spent £650 on the second car (1.2 Renault Clio mk.1 5-door - mechanically faultless, but had no power)
The next year, we spent £1800 on the third car (1.8 Peugeot 406 LX D9 saloon - gone, but not forgotten)
Last year, I spent £2850 on my current set of wheels.

I would happily spend precisely £6,000 on a used car, because I know I could get something totally awesome with that sum of money.

I would never spend precisely £6,000 on a new car, because I know I'd end up with a tiny, gutless, plastic-trimmed, soulless, tree-hugging shitbox that nobody in their right mind would want to drive under any circumstances whatsoever.

my friend spent £14k (wherever the heck he got it in one summer) on a new golf last year, it was a bog standard car, and it meets all that criteria listed above, being a first car its been in a few battles, id say its worth a lot less this year.

and antother person i know spent £9000 on a corsa 1.4 with one of vauxhall terribly named trim levels like club or elegance, the spec is crap, and so is the car, he thinks its economical, but its not really compared to a hdi thats doing what it should.

and the mitsubishi imev £23,000, for a small car with a food blender motor in it. How can an electric motor cost more to make than an engine, id be interested in an electric car if they werent so damm ugly, a fiat panda electric would be nice. But they need to be cheap.

Ive just spent circa 20k on the C5, the most i have ever paid for a car that is mine,

I have had more expensive new ones as company cars before but this is the first one i have had to dip into my pocket for, still i am a business now so i suppose its just the same as all the other company cars i have had before :?

Oh and Im loving it :cheesy:

I've always bought cars for around £3K and then found them to be on the cusp of becoming money pits in no time flat, typically you'd get something about 6+ years old and inherit all those jobs the previous owner got sick of

The Volvo was a bargain at £7K and is pretty much still worth that 2 years later but then again it's on finance so will really cost nearer to £9K  I got just over £1K for the old 406 but the money just became pocket money and kinda vanished on 'stuff' :?

I really do wonder, now that I'm driving an ubber economical Ashtray van day-to-day which can be driven recklessly and parked anyhow and anywhere, whether it is better to run about in a workhorse/shitter and then hire a nice car for visiting relatives/travelling etc and then hand it back :|

Burn the focus and buy a proper car.

The ECU has 4 looms.
The interior loom (Immob sensor, ignition barrel, instrument cluser, immob indicator light etc etc).
A Sensor loom, Self explanatory (Oil pressure sensor, speedo sensors, O2 etc etc)
Ignition loom (Coilpack)
and a Fueling loom.

Alothough there one big bunch of wires if you follow them about you will find plugs where the dive off into different sectors.

Well the fueling loom had all corroded in the college carpark.

Found it by chance, the GF had gone first so didnt notice I couldn't get my car started, i was pulling my hair out because the AA wouldn't come out (too close to home) so just pulling random plugs and sticking them back in.

Looked at this one plug and it was full of white fur

Scraped the fur off with my keys, plugged it back in and it started up srtaight away. Fecking thing.
Got home and cleaned the plug out with some WD40 and a paint brush and put some vasline around the outer casing of the plug to keep it dry.
