Handbrake Light on a D8

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Handbrake Light on a D8

Post by aust250378 »

Hi all,

1.9td 1996

I can only see reference to d9's on this issue, so here goes:-

This morning, The handbrake warning light has started flickering randomly and Isn't always coming on when I engage the handbrake. Is the warning light also tied in with low brake fluid on this model? if so I will check the fluid level at lunch time, if not is the guide to get to the handbrake sensor the same as the d9?

Thanks!

I think all 406s have had the handbrake microswitch issue. It's a stupid and irritating little problem, not least of which because you're left worrying about whether the brake fluid level really is low or not.

First and foremost, ensure your brake fluid level is correct. If it is, then you should look at dismantling your centre console to locate the microswitch on the handbrake lever. As far as I'm aware, the centre console on a D8 is assembled and disassembled in the same way as the centre console on a D9. I figure this is true because the two consoles are interchangeable; you can put a D9 console into a D8 (and by doing so, you will get two cup holders, albeit awkwardly placed ones).

Thanks Highlander,

When I had a Nissan Primera, The brake fluid level was also tied in to the handbrake light however the light would always work when i engaged the handbrake leading me to *believe* that its the handbrake sensor at fault on the peugeot because it's not always working when I engage the handbrake.

Thanks

Looks like it's leaking fluid from a cyclinder at the back, spoke to a garage, just waiting to hear on a part price.
