just had both drums off and the passangers side cylinder as gone. so not to bad.

i'm gonna adjust my add now on ebay and be honest

the new buyer can have a free retest within 2 weeks at a cost of about £60

on my suzuki its just held in with a clip, it comes out very easy, most drum brake assemblies are similar to it.

There normaly easy mate ,as long as the brake pipe nut turns easy enough,
but once thats loosend off there adoddle,

you will have to bleed off the brakes afterwards too, so if you do it you will need some Brake fluid to top-up with,

if you decide to do it iwill fly over and give you a lift to change it and bleed the brakes up if you want,

Gary that cylinder will be easy to sort out,
for the sake of sorting that it will make you more money on the car.

it wouid still sell as it is with no big problem but now that youve took it for its test iwouid personaly see it through and finish it off and go back and grab that mot certificate any car will sell Quick with a full mot mate,

Get the mot on it and Advertise it on the Boards at Tescos, Morrisons Etc, it will go quick that way

As isaid iwill help you do it just get the Cylinder and iwill fly over and help you do it,

it doesnt seem too bad a wee car, me and my dad bought worse, a landrover defender for £500, it looked like a good olde yoke on the face of it, and we had been enticed by the bullshit that landrovers dont rust because they are made of aluminium, the aluminium doesnt rust but every bit of steel rusts very well on a landrover, and that meant £500 being spent on welding the chasis into some acceptable state, then the electrics were all mad, so it cost £100 for a new wiring loom, and £50 for new front seats. The 4wd system didnt work properly, it was rubbish off road. At that stage we never thought we would make a profit, anyhow it was stuck on gumtree and we still managed to shift it on for £1500.

try putting it on ebay as an auction, if you get a few people bidding on it can jump up the price. Make sure to set a reserve though.

Gary not being funny but your being silly mate, Honestly,
uve gone to all that trouble of taking it for its test and luckily its failed on bits, it couid of been alot worse,

think of it from a buyers eye,

2mths Tax,
13mths mot,
low insurance ,

clean and tidy & 50mpg, theyd grab it ,

if you look on the fourcourts there 995 onwards on that year so id say it wouid sell quick,

You may struggle to shift it without MOT.

If the cylinder is cheap, buy it and stick it on there, get it through its test, and then you're much more likely to get it sold.

If all my old saloon needed was a brake cylinder, I'd have swapped it out in a heartbeat, then maybe it would have gone to some new owner, rather than the smegging scrapyard

YEP you guys are right. ive gotta go the full lenth now with this. just changed the advert on ebay to full MOT and put the price to £575

me and lozz are gonna get them back brakes sorted and bleeded. then get it back for the free retest.

that wheel cylinder is a doddle to do honest,we did my daughters a couple of months ago cos it failed its mot on it,
the wheel cylinder is number 3 in the diagram and is held on from the rear with 2 allen bolts
basically remove the big nut that holds the bearing/drum on, take the sodden brake shoes off, undo the brake pipe from the rear and then the 2 allen bolts slide the cylinder out towards you.
buy a new bleed nipple as well as the cylinder bolt everything back together,bleed the brakes and your good to go

BTW i used a blowtorch to 'dry out' the brake shoes and get rid of the fluid that was soaked in, tester put it back on there machine and all was well

Are these things all fairly similar?

My handbrake doesn't hold and I'll need to get it sorted before next MOT.
