Surely if you just un plug the lead to the solonoid the egr will not open anyway without the need to blank it off

its probably a lot easier than adding the plates which leaves you hand looking as if you have put it near an angry cat.

Odin, the solenoid is located on the Bulk head,
some 406s have 3 of them mine as 2 but if yours as 3 it will be the middle one if 2 its the end one nearest to the Near side (uk side )

the solonoid things just look alittle bit like them pumps that are on windscreen washer bottles if you know what imean,
sorry idont have any pictures or guides on this,

just unplug it and leave the vacume pipes on plug it back in in winter tho it does help the engine warm up a bit Quicker and saves on the Mpg a bit

Yeah maybe I got it, sometimes the problem is only that it's difficult to translate all your words for engine parts to italian ones.

Thanks doggy, will see what I can do. My mechanic said that the EGR valve was vibrating above normal but that it shouldn't be a problem, but I'll try to have a look into it.

[OT]
By the way reading the post you linked I realized I have the same problem: a slight hiss when accelerating at low revs, I always thought it was the turbo (this is my first turbodiesel) and being an old car it was a little noisier, but it culd actually be some leaking pipe (=>degraded performance?). What kind of noise do you hear from your turbo?
My peugeot dealer drove the car at least 4 times and didn't tell me that it could be a problem, so:
a) He didn't notice, which means he has some hearing problem, because it's fairly noticeable
b) He really believes it's nothing important and he's an honest guy and didn't try to spill me money

Odin, 2.2's have a more complex system with more valves.

Study this post from the coupe forum - it's the best explanation I've seen and could save you a lot of money....

Yep, already read all that, could be useful in the future.
At the moment everything's fine but I am wondering if the hiss I hear is normal, it's pretty strong, do you have it too or the turbo is subtle?

You can definitely hear mine - especially when the water temperature is less than 70 & the air is diverted through the water / air heat exchanger, (which is more restricted than the intercooler). At first I thought it was a police siren in the distance.

That reassures me, maybe if I have time I'll capture a video and put it into youtube, we'll see.
