Activate other features on the BSI

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Activate other features on the BSI

Post by atadinho »

Hi friends!
My question is: Can we activate other features on the BSI that didn't came as standard? For example ESP(although it won't work), cruise control, trip computer, speed limit alarm, etc? I heard here in Portugal that's possible, but i can't find any information... Anyone knows if it's possible or what can we activate? I'm talking about a 406 2.0 HDi D9...
Thank's!!!

Yes you can, but the functions that are listed vary depending on the age of your car:

A 1999 executive I looked at only had the speed alarm function listed.
Cruise control became an option sometime in 2001, (I think), and will only work with additional switches etc.
Many people have added the trip computer, though I do not think they changed anything in the BSI, (or perhaps necessary on later cars).
On my 2002 estate, I have added automatic rear wiper, (works along with front wipers, when reverse selected).
It has options for locking the doors above 10 kph and many others I have not tried, because there is no matching hardware, (ESP etc).

These are just my observations, the possibilities seem to change from car to car for no sensible reason. All you can do is connect yours up and see what is there.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Thanks mate!!! I already have cruise control an trip computer as standard, i was interested in other functions as speed alarm, locking the doors above "x" speed, etc...
I will try to connect up the BSI and see what's what...

I guess I need pp2k to connecto to the BSI?
I wanna see if it is possible for windows to be powered when the car has just been stopped. Mine doesn't do that for some reason.

i will correct some stuff,

i added trip computer to my estate, and it was necessary enabling it on the BSI.

Cruise control can be enabled in older models too between 99-01 ( PRE-COM2000 ) and i think only with 110 bhp RHZ engines and the ones which have all the wirings and switchs pre installed .. well this is my case, i have confirmed in a garage nearby that they can do it, only needs programming on the ECU, no BSI involved ( like i suspected, this models have everything ( at least the button and stalk) connected directly to the ECU, like peugeot 806, 607, coupe, with the same ages )

The option to lock the doors above x miles would be cool, but that's not a problem, because there is always the button on the door to do it ..of course that is a feature that was made after, its not surprising not having it

Now, don't ask me about models with COM2000 , because in those i don't doubt that it will need something on the BSI side, because they are even more sophisticated ...

By the way atadinho i'm from Portugal too ! cheers mate ! :P 8)

I only have power when the key is turned on the second step (when it heats up the coils, for example). With the kay on the frst step or without the key they do not work. I do not think this is normal in a car of this price tag, even if from 2001!

Was at the dealer's yesterday for my aircon problem, asked 'bout the BSI too. He said that modifying the BSI is a 0.8 hour job and that BSI settings have to be reinitialized at the end of the job, he thus does not suggest to do it on such an old car as the BSI might go mad.
He says before entering the BSI they should do vacuum in the system etc... it doesn't seem real to me, I see you just enter it and turn it on/off in a second!
He usually is a very honest guy, so I don't think he's trying to crap me, he just refilled the whole AC system for only 65£.
