Handbrake (D9)

Lol. iread that a bit late jasper,
itried the Driving it with the handbrake on, 5 miles with it on full,
its working better now but only one side is working, /holding must be the driverside disc /shoes are Fubard,
iwill get a new set of discs and pads,

but this time iwill sand them a little as you sugest jasper
idont think driving with the handbrake on does them any good , its just burns them out

Sorted it, atlast ffs

Some clown has took a spring off possibly lost it or just couidnt be arsed putting it back in,
replaced it and its holding well.
ajusted everything upfollowing jaspers guide whats on the forum , excellent that !

No mate,
interior swap didnt got ahead car is too good to break, only needs £50 spending on it to put it back on the road so had a change of plan at using it as Donor for parts for mine,
ive sourced a full interior incl black door cards so iwill go and grab them and get them fitted in this week hopefully,
Strangely the rear door cards are none electric ones too so jobs a gooden thats if there still there on wednesday

They wont mate,
there a good parts place but they wont hold stuff they just said 1st come first served,
hopefully no one will buy them, there only Rappier seats but there very tidy, and the Black door cards are a bit rare didnt know they made them,

imeant rare as in black cloth there not Grey or beige.
these are the only ones ive seen up to now that are black, material,

My mate runs his own garage and he has worked on many 406's and he says 406 handbrakes are crap no matter how much money you throw at them,when i had mine mot'd last year the tester even said 406 handbrakes are rubbish .

Yup iagree,
the 406 handbrakes are Pathetic or atleast mine was,

but after reading Jaspers how too and some messing about cleaning everything up its working perfect,
holds on 2 clicks now on hills , its never worked as good,

fingers crossed it wont slacken off again,

I agree about the handbrake on the 406 being a bit useless. But i have to say Jaspers how to guide worked a treat handbrake was on 7-8 clicks to start with. After playing around with the adjuster on the back and then taking up the slack its on 5-6 clicks now and rock solid. Couldn't quite get it down to 4-5 clicks but in the haynes book it does say 5-6 clicks is where it should be so i am quite satisfied it will be okay for the mot. The mrs reckons its much better so it gets the thumbs up!

I had to whip the n/s/r disc and pads off as the backplate was rubbing again. Had to scrape a lot of rust off and chisel out the crappy bits in the middle. One of these days i think i'll replace them but only if and when the bearings go. Its a lot of money to fork out to replace. The fibreglass i bodged them up with last year is holding up okay and tbh if you looked at them you wouldn't know. Once i'd sorted that out the rest of the handbrake adjusting it was fairly straight forward.
