in the coming few weeks, i'll be getting my local exhaust fabricator to fit a 2.2 petrol coupe back box on my sri estate. the work will involve extending the tail pipe and modifying a hanger.
my question is, when the guy extneds the tail pipe, if i get him to make the tip a bigger diameter, will it affect the sound produced?
exhaust question - not the usual!

Shouldn't do. It should be the arrangement of boxes (middle, back or both) and the contents of those that produce (or reduce) sound.
I put a chrome tailpipe on the Honda to hide the rusty pipe and it makes no difference to the sound.
Not unless it is one of these ones with a whistle in to pretend its a turbo?

It will only make a difference if he enlarges the hole exiting the box itself but I guess he will enlarge the tubing after it leaves the box - be careful not to make it too big-bore as it might look a bit strange on a 406

I was presuming he was welding a pipe onto the existing exit pipe, leaving the diameter of the back box exit the same.Welly wrote:It will only make a difference if he enlarges the hole exiting the box itself but I guess he will enlarge the tubing after it leaves the box - be careful not to make it too big-bore as it might look a bit strange on a 406
I am reminded of HimBigChief's dual exhaust
