D9 LOWER SUSPENSION ARM

Post by marco2002 »

Hi
The wheel bearing on my D9 406 was replaced on tuesday along with the lower balljoint and t.r.e. luckily just before the m.o.t is due in 2wks I had a look at the front lower suspension arm and the bush at the back end which has two bolts through it is perished.

Are the lower suspension arms on the D8 and D9 the same as i'm off to the breakers on saturday to get another one and just wanted to know in case there aren't any D9 406's in the yard. I've had a look on ebay and i see that you can re-bush the lower arm. Hopefully if i can find a decent lower arm i won't have to bother going down that road. Any advice appreciated.

Hi
Went to the breakers today and got a pair of front suspension arms for £25 in good nick as well and the rubbers are intact look better then mine so no re-bushing to do i will keep the old arms as a spare set . While i was there i got a set of hdi cover clips with the dampers and they are in very good nick also grabbed a guide pin bolt and mounting bolt for the rear caliper as mine aren't the best. I was quite surprised how many hdi's were in the yard don't usually see that many. Its been a good day and hopefully i'll fit the new arms tommorow.

Thinking about having a go at doing the rear trailing arms soon as the rubbers look a bit perished on those too. On a bit of a mission right now as car is booked in for mot next monday and then have a week until it expires gives me a chance to do the repairs if they find anything. fingers crossed.....

hi
Just a quick update on the lower suspension arms. Fitted them a couple of days ago and what a difference its made to the car. At slow speeds under 20 mph the front suspension had a very slight wobbly feeling from left to right. The bushes on both arms were perished. The front end of the car feels a lot more stable and the bit of understeer i had has gone. Strangely enough the back end of the car feels better too. All i have to do is get the tracking done and it should be ready for the mot on monday.
