Saving Battery Power

as some are aware, im off on holiday next week and ive decided to park my car at te airport as its far far cheaper than getting a return minibus.

taxi firms in wgan want 100 pounds for a return minibus and parking for 10 days is only 35 quid, you can see why i'm driving myself

anyway after 10 days i dont wanna return to my car and find my battery flat for some reason or another,

is it best to disconnect the positive cable from the battery and leave it dissconected ?

My car haas been sat for pretty much a month now with just a quick fire up & a roll backwards or forwards once at the weekend & the battery is still fine. I'd leave it connected, but if you're a bit worried, chuck a spare battery & some jump leads in the boot so you can quickly give it a jump start if it does go.

The one time i left mine at the airport, I locked the car with the key having left the bonnet open. Then I disconnected the battery, shut the bonnet, and went on holiday. When I came back, i reconected the battery and drove home. You can open the drivers door with no battery, just means the central locking won't work untill the batteries back on. All I had to do was to reset the clock and radio pre sets. It is what i would do next time, and only takes a few seconds.
With my marine engineering hat on, this would be standard practice. A lot easier than carrying a spare battery.

Heres another idea go and buy a solar panel battery charger rated 2W and that will keep your battery trickle charged while you are away. Theres a guy who lives here and he has one of those mobile homes goes abroad a lot when its not being used he plugs the solar panel into the cigarette lighter and it works even on a dull day like today has a green light to tell you when its charging. Its on special offer at maplins for £9.99 at the moment so its a good price as i paid £20.00 for my one. I use it on an old pug 106 i've got here thats not doing a lot and it saves me having to charge it up. Hope that helps.

That little Maplin solar charger has kept the battery on my Spitfire alive for the last 4 years layup.

It was £15 when I bought it, a bargain then

if you get one of those maplins chargers you have to make sure your cig socket is still live with the ignition off else it does not work!
but they do provide 2 clips so you can run it straight to the battery.

Gary if your battery goes flat give us a ring and iwill fly down the motorway with some jump leads,


shouidnt go flat tho after 10days ishouidnt think,
Mine went flat after 7 days of it being stood but that was Through the bad Winter,
ithink theres a place you can park near the airport where its like a propper garage they start the cars up once in a while,
My father in law left his with them and they even washed and Valeted it for him ready for his Return
carnt remeber the name of the place tho might be worth Googling,
think he paid around £60 for 14 days, but he said it was worth it as the car was safe with security and the car got a good clean

Gaz just park it, lock it and go, i used to use the long stay at Liverpool all the time when i lived back in the uk, the patrols have a set of jump leads in the van, its a common complaint when somebody leaves the lights on, or similar so they are well prepared for it and dont mind giving you a jump.

saying all that though you shouldnt have a problem anyway, its only 10 days.

If you are that worried about running out of charge, then just park up and then remove one of the leads.
