406 big problem

Post by marty31 »

2001 peugeot 406 hdi. I cleaned the dozier or dozier valve on said car during the week.
Next day I noticed a lack of acceleration accompanied by black smoke.....the car will not rev beyond 2500 rpm and struggles to reach 40mph.

The car starts fine and idles at a steady 800 rpm....prior to me cleaning the "dozier" valve car ran sweet returning 50 plus mpg....oil was always changed at 5000 miles.

It is like the car has gone into limp mode and is undriveable at the moment.....how would removing the said valve cause this or was it just a coincidence ...?there is no engine management light showing either.

I know i will probably need to put car on a computer but any advice appreciated.

Have checked for obvious leaks etc to no avail......

The air doser has little dabs of paint on it as if to say....do not disassemble....which I did...do i need a new one?

Hi there .. i had a problem once with the dozer , it kind of fell apart
but i put it back together and held it together with a tie wrap . When it
partialy came apart the car would not start so obviously has a marked affect
on the engine , Take it off make sure it is all sealed and the pipe is fitted ok and
try again .
.. ooh are those drugs for me Matron

Cheers for reply Puggy, have tried all that............does the butterfly on it have to be set a certain way when refitting i wonder?

Or am I barking up the wrong tree and the problem is elsewhere....and it just was a coincidence it happened after the valve went back on....I hope to feck its not the turbo or the pump.

Thats it , the bit on the right side of mine fell apart it's got s spring and diaphram
inside , it did work when put on but i later changed it for piece of mind . Never
touched the butterfly but would imagine it only fits one way.

is the dozer closed? sounds like not enough air's getting in.

A happy ending, was really convinced my turbo or pump was knackered.

After lot of tinkering and thinking I pulled the pipe containing the dozer butterfly.....when the engine was reved it was staying shut where normally it should open as the revs increase.

I pulled the skinny pipe from the dozer to the valve on the bulkhead and plugged it with a screw...........engine ran sweet as a nut...so the problem was the little bugger on the bulkhead.

Great to have the old girl back , heres to another 204,000 miles. :)
