Starter motor replaced ,bulbsyan101 wrote:archangel, i see your is on 238k miles, is it still running good and what problems have you come accross in the time youve had it?
currently working on getting front springs replaced after driver side snapped (sitting on drive when it happened , not moving thank god )
nothing major apart from that
Started running better when went on to bio-diesel , was already running 306 DTurbo on it . You do need good quality bio , cos there is some sh*t out there , turbo actually started to work after a few 100 miles , before that was struggling to maintain 70 on motorway without having to change down ( to 3rd at one point )
If you got any more questions use this email to contact if you want ( [email protected] )
Replacement !

Re: thinking of buying a 406 1.9td
thanks archangel, have emailed you. just sat around today wondering if i should go drive it
i wish i had the balls to say oh bugger it ill get it, but alas i dont....... i think your right, im all talk and no trousers on this one. used to be that id swap cars at the drop of a hat, never worried about things like service histories, how much insurance was gonna be. i guess im just getting older, and probably wiser. he world of swapping cars is much harder when you really rely on having one that works properly, and wont break down on you

Yan,
it wont cost you anything to test drive it?
when youve got 5 mins spare go and ask him if you can have a drive of it,
See what it starts up like from cold too,

Re: thinking of buying a 406 1.9td
i did start it last time i went, it started up first go, it was about 10 degrees c out, sounded ok to me, i even forgot to let the glow plug light go out and it started first pop. i just dont know what to do lol. i feel pressured to buy if i take it for a drive, not that he's pushy, i just feel stupid if i drive it and walk away
Re: thinking of buying a 406 1.9td

Preasured Why?
if you was impressed with the 406 ithink you wouid of bought it already,
there must be something that made you walk away from it in the first place,
if it was nigling you something wasnt right with it leave it where it is,
keep what youve got or just wait till something you like turns up ,
nowt worse than parting with a car for another and ending up with a bus pass or pushing a car in the rain

Re: thinking of buying a 406 1.9td
Only thing niggling me was the dash not lit up and the blowers not working right. But i didnt know till afterwards that they could be easy fixes. It ran really nice. I popped it into every gear and the wasnt any crunching etc.
I think im reluctant to get rid if mine as when i got it, it was a brilliant car. Its just got worse over time but i still see it as the mint car i got just over 2 years ago. But like i say i guess i had an initial feeling about the pug. But felt better about it after some advice on here about the small problems. Id take someone with me if i knew anyone with any decent mechanical knowledge. I may go and see it at some point this week. Insurance isnt too bad on it. And tax is 118 for 6 months. But t dosent put me off it as i know i can get a supply of veg oil to run it on. And make my savings that way.

It's a bit of a pain, but I did do it (take the cover off!) in about 1 hour the first time around. Now, I could probably do it in 20 mins as I know where all the bolts are!FarmerPug wrote:i dont know how to do a cambelt change on my hdi it looks very difficult to get the cover off. i tried to get it off on the breaker car and couldnt do it, so i wouldnt attempt it on my own car.
the suzuki on the other hand seems easier the only problem is a lot of stuff is in the way of the cover before it comes off, and theres no marks to make lining the stuff up easy but after a read at the haynes manual i could attempt it, longtitudinal engine mounting is better for this reason that the belts are easier accessed.

Incidentally, there was still a leak somewhere and found that it was the air dozer. I replaced it with a new one and a year later it started leaking again. So I am just pretending the problem isn't there by not looking.

Sooner or later, all threads go off-topic around here
1.9TD's are pretty bullet-proof engine wise, so you won't go far wrong with it.
