not looking good on the 406 front im afraid. rang my insurance prior to going for a test drive to make sure it was vible, and to change the car on my policy is an extra £470!! bringing my monthly payment to £106 a month, now i can cancel my policy for £25 and take out a new one with asda insurance at £110 deposit and £60 a month, bit the £100 - £150 i might get in cashback from the dealer is going to go towards the deposit, and a cam belt change wouldnt be on the cards for another month or 2. would i risk it? my dad has drilled into my head for years "when you buy a used car get the belt changed before you get it home" because he bought a vauxhall omega a few years ago, and a couple of weeks later it snapped on the way to work, cost him round about £4k to get it sorted, it was the 2.5l 24v v6.
what do you think? risk it for a biscuit?
service book is stamped up to 93k miles so i would hope its been changed at least once in its life as its now on 160k

Nope - people don't spend money on cars, always play by the assumption that it hasn't been done - especially if there aren't receipts and the like to prove it!
