automatic rain sensor

My automatic rain sensor doesn't work so I took my rear view mirror off to have a look and instantly saw the problem!!

A previous owner obviously had some issues before me and had had a go at a DIY repair..

It seems as though it had previously come off and its been stuck back on with a massive blob of what seems like araldite or other really strong glue so the sensors don't touch the windscreen,

How can I remove these blobs of glue without damaging or breaking my windscreen??? They're rock solid and quite big,

If I can do this then I can fit a replacement....

Any help would be greatly appreciated....

araldite really isnt what the sensor touches the screen with, between the sensor and screen is squares of what i think is slicone.

nail polish remover sometimes works
could try warming it with a hair dryer

if you manage to clean it i have a rain sensor out of a pre multiplex ie 2000 D9.

I realise its the silicone pads but its the big lumps of solid glue I have to try and remove, I tried a glue remover but it didn't work, its for spillages before its mixed with the gardener, hairdryer didn't work, I've got a tiny needle file from work, hoping I can get rid of it that way without damaging the black laminate. surround on the windscreen. What a pain

ah right removing the glue, you need elbow grease and patience.
some aerosol cans of deodourant work at dissolving superglue away.

to remove the glue, iwouid use a stanley blade

One of them yellow spongues with the green rough bit at the top and a bit of Jif on it, theres nothing jif doesnt get off.

but jif is abrasive isnt it? you will scratch buggery out of your screen if you do that, anyway isnt it called Cif now?

iagree, jiff is too abrasive,
id deffo use a Stanley blade, or get one of them things painters use for getting Paint off glass

I know the shops call it cif but im backward and prefer cif, and my dad drives a datsun. Old names sound better

Its not that abrasive unless you scrub very hard, dilute it with a bit of water

what a stupid plonker that farmerpug is, saying cif when it should be jif.

back to the problem can you take a picture of the glue you want to remove, so it can be discussed better because if its where the silicone pads went it will need to be perfectly clean for the sensor to work.
