Could be, but I suspect a lot is down to parts costs & how they perform in accidents (as in how many parts need replacing compared to a Mondeo or Vectra). If the taxi use was a deciding factor, Mondeos would cost a bomb around here as they are the most common car used for a taxi - & my old TDDi estate gives a quote of £380. We even have a local used car sales that specialises in them & even keeps a stock of Mondeo spares & wheels for the local taxi firms.

Every mk2 (as in the round grille) Mondeo I see has a destroyed bumper from what looks like a single tap.

The 406 can survive this (mine used to be parked right up against a tree due to lack of parking. Even the Accord had a deformed dent in the bumper from this tree that just popped itself out!).

The Mondeo bumpers are cheap to replace though, I think ford were only charging around £20 for replacements. They were designed to crakc and break.

the taxi thing though, here in NI toyota carinas still bumble about ready to relieve you of a lot of money for a slow and uncomfortable ride to you destination but they are not hard to insure, nor is the avensis which is just as popular, or a skoda octavia and you see more of these as taxis than 406s, and although the 406s ncap safety rating isnt great its no worse than anything from the same age.

In the likes of Cyprus, Spain, Germany they're Mercedeseses that are taxis.

Oldest taxi I've seen in NI is a Sierra.

Seen a few of those tacky hen party limos with taxi plates, probably some legality or something.

i discovered that insuring mine with adrian flux and declaring the mods fitted and the planned ones saved me 500 quid

my old insurer wanted 950 for the year on a normal fully comp policy with 6 years no claims where as ive still got fully comp and no limited mileage for 450 a year

Buy a coupe, put a Ferrari bodykit on, and insure it as a kit car.

In which case, insurers should only be classing the 406 as a taxi if it is a taxi company that is trying to insure it. If not, they're thieving bastards.

I've made comment tonoght on another thread about insurance

I can insurance a Zafira GSi with twice the power (almost) and four times the value for half the cost to insure
I've just put through a Volvo S60 with a D5 with 160bhp on top for around the same price as the Zafira

Insurance for the 406 is a Joke big time
