but yes jenga in a caravan isnt easy, someone gets in or out and the game is lost. :x

the reason there isnt many of them big volvos is nutts corner and the demolition derby, there was always about 3 every time i went, strangely they didnt win all the time.
True big tanks of things. Popular with the banger racers.

Mk2 Granadas and mk4/5 Cortinas too, though these are getting thin on the ground and I think the remainder should go to collectors and not be destroyed.

Mk3 Granada and Sierra were never as popular as they didn't seem as well built. I've seen the odd Mondeo though.

We had one of them 740's as a courier vehicle - bit heavy on juice but was given to us, so balanced out

Anyway, one of the drivers crashed it on the A1 near Scotch Corner
When the recovery guy brought it back, he said he'd never seen a car so far into a field after a crash
Reckoned our guy must of been doing over a ton

There was barely a scratch on our guy, although the volvo was "slightly" the worse for wear

The 40 I think referred to it being a 4 cylinder, with the 760 being the 6 cylinder.

Not sure where the 5 cylinder engines fitted in though.

Friend at uni bought a cheap Audi 80 with the 1.6 TD engine.

Was an uncomfortable thing compared to my ZX, but I loved the old clattery diesel engine, reminded me of old Merc diesels.

5 Cylinders didn't come in till the Volvo 850.
Was soooo close to getting a Volvo 850 2.5 20v GLX... Insurance was decent one them too!
Until my Dad drove it... apparently 170bhp was too much for me in a first car

them volvos were a quick car, the ambulance service had some as rrv cars but the fuel consumption meant they had to go to skodas.

as for the 1.6 audi 80, my dad had one of them aswell as the petrol one, he got it and sold it to my grampa, had it about 5 years, i remember there was an awful amount of spare space in the engine bay, and it was mildly underpowered to say the least.

When I did the car maintenance evening course at tech, someone had a 1.4 mk3 Golf, and the engine bay in it looked like someone put a wee lawnmower engine in

See a lot of the Ambulance service Octavia 4x4s about, they reasonably quick?

The old 700 series had a 2.3 4-cyl petrol engine which just would not rev, didn't need to really either, consequently it was a hardy thing spending most of its life under 2000 rpm but still guzzling petrol like at a rate of knots.............some things don't change

Volvo has always had a confusing array of vehicle 'names'.........still have really :|

Volvo flourished under Ford and now have a multi-model strategy with popular SUVs, the core saloon/estates and the little C30 doing well with the trendies.

Saab however, was allowed to languish, the 9-5 was like the Rover 45 at the end, ancient 90s tech with a new grille. The 9-3 was the only other model. In the states they did sell a 9-2X which was a rebadged Impreza, and a 9-7X which was a rebadged Chevrolet SUV.

In the end though the sheep like their exec cars German

They might have in terms of targeting buyers but the quality has suffered. Ford are bean-counting car builders, mine is littered with components bearing the FoMoCo stamp - turns my stomach when I see it :(

A very real example of this cost-cutting is the a/c condensers; for years Volvo conny's were long-lasting until Ford stepped in with a thinner grade/cheaper conny and guess what? they last about 20 minutes in the real world  my brake calipers are off a Mondeo :supafrisk: and my door cards are curiously similar to a Focus's although there's no actual Ford stuff in the cabin, which is nice.

Aren't Jag's still owned by the TATA Motor Co.? it doesn't seem to matter who sits in the chair overall :|
