just joined your club, I have just taken charge of a 2001 406 2.0 110 HDI excutive estate. I was lucky enough to be given the car by a mate as the cluch was on its last legs and he could not afford to get it fixed and wanted something with less mileage, so I was the lucky recipiant. the car has covered 249,000 miles and was still on its first clutch which I have now change. my first ever pull clutch. it took me a few days to do but I got there in the end with the help of Mr Hains Manual. I have also changed the cam belt as it had done 160,000 miles and I was a bit worried about it. but as it turned out it is not the cam belt I should have worried about but the water pump which really was on its last legs and would not have lasted a nother week!
just got to get the Air con working the rear wiper working and then the noisy circulation flap motor which is making a grinding noise when you start the car. does anyone no the best way of getting to this?
The standard cure for the recirculation flap motor is to remove it, stick it in the bin and push the flap open. You'll have to get the glovebox out to get to it mind. The flap is under the pollen filter. The alternatives are silly money for a new one, one from a breaker's or find a toy car with the right gearbox...
thanks for the advice removal sounds good at the moment but I might have a word with my tamed machinist after reading the artical you pointed out to see what he can do.
I have spent the afternoon with me head in the pasanger footwell and have managed to get the motor off and the noise has stopped (what joy!) i then pluger the motor in to see what happened and the grey funny shaped cog thing did 1 1/2 revolutions clock wise it does the same when you press the circulation button. now i would have thought it should go in both directions by looking at the gear it is driving to move the flap. with this in mind i decided to pull the moror housing apart to investigate further and was quite suprised to find all the cogs inside in good condition with no ware of damage.
So my question is:
How is the the motor suposed to work? is it suposed to go in both directions? which would point to the circuit board inside the motor being at fault. but if this is the correct operation then why is it making that noise?
