New here

Post by 406loon »

Hi All. Today I bought my first 406 and first french car! a 53 plate 406 2.2 HDi SE saloon in moonstone blue. Currently looking at a few modifications for it and info about the car as really didnt know much about them until I started reading about them a week before I bought one.

I have already bought the coupe strut brace (too cheap to resist, £15) so that will be my first mod :)

Looking forward to participating on the forum and owning this most underated car.

Hi there and welcome, its far from under rated on this forum, in any of its guises.

Remap, de-fap seems to be the way forward, i will be joining the de-fapped and re-mapped club just as soon as the warranty is finished on mine :cheesy:

Welcome aboard

Get some pics up of the new chariot - I was only looking at a blue 2003 2.2HDi on eBay the other day

Yes, the strut brace is a good mod - make sure you've got the longer bolts to go with it
1999 D8.5 HDi GLX - Sold :(

2007 Mondingo Zetec - I seek forgiveness :( Bring back my 406

Thanks for welcome and info guys.

I have been looking into the de fap and map aswell. Im going to get a cold air induction kit first, then a cat back system, have a defap pipe made up at the exhaust place nut leave the fap in until I can get it mapped out also while Im there I might have the EGR delete mod done aswell - not sure how much that might upset the ECU. Might have to get that done when its being mapped?

Would like to come to Gaydon next month, I am in Shrewsbury, so not too far away for a day out. I really know very little about these cars. Had never even driven a Peugeot before I bought this one, must say I am very impressed with it.

The blue 2.2 your were looking at was probably the one I bought, it was an ad on ebay :)

The mods I want to do apart from engine are fit some 17'' challenger wheels painted anthracite or white, havent decided yet. A photoshop maybe in order. My car doesnt have a rear spoiler and I think they could really do with one. Have been looking at those BMW style "lip" spoilers as I dont fancy the factory type.

Im going to a breakers next weekend to see if I can relieve a coupe of its Brembos. Expensive brake upgrade but probably well worth it.

Might pay you to hang fire on some of that, as you may be able to get it mapped for next to nowt. 8)

You could also try Ade the coupe breaker for brembos & the like. (ade1122 406 coupe parts on eBay).

Sounds great, but how on earth do you map a car without paying a fair few hundred quid??

You might find some kind soul with a laptop, a Galletto 1260, and a valid copy of the right ECU map file might be able to help you remove the FAP from your car!

Also - Moonstone Blue... not seen that one before. Can you open up the driver's door, and look on the A pillar, there should be a sticker there with the paint code on it (will look a bit like "EGED" or something similar). If you can tell me what your paint code is, and give me a photo of your car, I will add it to our Wiki

I say moonstone blue as its quite similar to the name given to the colour 3dr Sierra Cosworths were available in - Its not a rare colour for a 406 though.

Thats a good post and a clever bit of DIY work but I do want to get the car mapped anyway not just defapped. as Ive heard the 2.2s respond well to a map so with a cold air induction kit, de-fap pipe, 3'' downpipe, 2.5 catback and map I should see some good figures around 170-180bhp and 400nm+. Not sure what the max output on the stock turbo or if the injectors are upto it though?
