help cant open the back door want open

hi all i have a 2003 406 estate and i cant open the back boor with the handle i have the child lock on so cant open it from the inside the out side door handle lifts up like it should. i can hear the lock locking and unlocking. i put the back seats down and tock the door card off. i can see the lock bar moving when using both the lock on door and key flod i can see the outside door handle move the link to the brass plate. can i take the child lock of from inside the door any were or what could i try to get the door open thank you

From memory, none of the screws to remove the doorcard are inaccessible with the door shut & it is mostly held on with crappy plastic pop-off clips. If I'm remembering right, the screws are 1 at the bottom of the armrest/grab handle, 1 towards the back of the door (with a little black blanking plug over it) & 1 underneath the top of the grab handle.

Best suggestion I can come up with is pop the doorcard off & try to get your hands in to fiddle with the rod attached to the outside handle to try to open it.

I'll be quite interested to see what has caused this too as one of my rear doors seems to need the handle lifting further than the rest to actually open the door.

the door card is off and the rod attached to the outside handle is moving the brass hing thing in side the door, the in side door handle rod moves but as the child look is on it will not open the door. how do you remove the look for the door with it close

Sorry, but wouldn't know where to go or what to do from there. To be honest, I was hoping that there'd be something attached to the outer handle from the inside that you could pull & open the door as if it was being opened from outside.

Hopefully someone might know a solution on here, but failing that, a locksmith may cost a few quid, but once it's open you could at least turn off the child lock.

Does the car have deadlocks?

See if you can get the outer handle off from inside the door to maybe get at the opening mechanism.

Deadlocks might cause a problem as Steve thinks.

i think the car have deadlocks you can lock the car with the windows open but cant open the car until you use the key what makes it harder is the child lock is on

My old D8 used to do this and it was indeed the deadlock that was causing it. Repeated locking / unlocking would eventually release it. I had a fiddle inside the door but couldn't find anything obviously amiss, also tried various lubes in there to no effect. In the end I just stopped deadlocking it (not an option on a D9 unfortunately) and it was like that 'till I sold the car

I'm guessing it's a sticky solenoid somewhere so maybe the next logical step would be to replace the mechanism?

If you can get to it - with the door shut it's going to be a pain. I've been looking at diagrams etc. but I can't see where the actual solenoid is, anyone had one apart?

Maybe head for the scrappy and break a few of theirs, till you master the technique?

Always works for me.
