I used to get driven to school, back in the 90's in a previous shape GT4 - awesome car it was. The shape you have, shares a lot with the same era Camry - from memory the 2.2L models had the same motor.

been looking at some Fto s on the Evil bay, they look abit out my league no rear seats if any,

the Celica at least as some Rears seat plenty of room for 2 small children But adults wouid have to Walk,
there cheap for parts, just seen another one on ebay its alot older but imight just grab that one for my son and keep this one,

atleast with having the celica people have stopped asking me for a lift,got a valid excuse now No room Sorry get a taxi ,
had alot of people using me as a Taxi service when ihad the 406. inlaws sort of took the piss abit there,
coupe isnt Roomy like the 406 but its good fun

Yea people don't see a 2 door car in the same way as they see a 4 door car as an excuse to get a lift.
When you stop outside a pub you don't get people thinking you're a minicab either!
And when they did, in the GTV, they quickly found that the rear seats were useless!

ive not had a proper look at a Fto yet ,But by the look of them theres no 'Rear sears if any or Hardly any seats,?
a lad on Another Forum had one and Said there Awesome He Gave up a Scooby to get one,

The Celicas i like because theres Plenty of Bootspace, Not as Much as a 406 but there alot bigger than something like a Rover 25 boot etc if you know what imean,
Rear seats are not too bad too plenty of leg room for alittle coupe.

I know they have a bit of a hairdresser image, but the late 90s Hyundai Coupes aren't a bad little toy & quite cheap to buy. Not sure about the 1.6, but the 2.0 SE I had for a few weeks was proper fun, had loads of kit as standard & the wife actually liked it (she usually just doesn't express an opinion).

One of my colleagues had a Hyundai Coupe SE with a 2.7 litre V6 engine.

- It produced 173 HP, but still drank fuel like <insert name of alcoholic celebrity here> drinks cheap booze.
- The interior was rattly and felt cheaply-built.
- The seats were hard and uncomfortable, and the leather on them scored and ripped far too easily (he'd literally sat on the driver's seat wearing a normal pair of jeans, and when he got up he'd found that one of the studs on the seat of the jeans had deeply scratched the seat, leaving a bright white score-mark).
- The ride was very hard (you could feel every little bump in the road directly through your arse-cheeks, as though you were being dragged along the road behind the car).
- And, the seats were positioned so low you could barely see out of the side windows.

It did look quite nice - but he got shot of it PDQ as the fuel costs were horrifying. As he was trying to sell it, he began to notice rust bubbling up on the rear left quarter-panel.

In the end, he traded it in for a top-of-the-range Skoda Octavia diesel, which was a surprisingly well-built but decidedly bland car.

Incidentally, how is it possible for a modern 2.7 litre V6 engine to produce only 13 HP more than the 2.2 litre I4 engine in my Coupe, while consuming a lot more petrol?

My mate had one simalar but it was Black lovely motor, He sold it and went to a Civic he wished he didnt tho,
the civic kept eating kept eating front wheel bearings so he got rid, it was a bit flat on power,

@ Alfas ilove them but, they eat gearboxes and a bit Depricate on value, seen some good examples go for peanuts
the older alfas where awesome, the old stuff like the SuD

what about a mazda mx5, it has the engine driving the correct wheels for and enjoyable car, and there is lot of them about. I think its the good weather making me say this, but convertables are great.

The Alfa was a nice car to drive but it ate suspension bushes and the electrics weren't right. The window wipers had a mind of their own!

Always fancied an MX5, but always been scared of being accused to being a hairdresser.
Best colour, that one in dark green, but with big wheels, and lowered, with the rollover hoop and tan interior it may look more manly.

Something like an S2000 perhaps, but it doesn't have the same charm as an MX5.
Saab 900 convertible would be practical.

My brother's girlfriend has a Mazda MX-5, he says it's an absolute hoot to drive.

They get an unfair reputation as a girly hairdresser's car simply because it's a small convertible, but that's where the fun is.

The weight distribution is 50/50
The engine is mounted just behind the front axle (so it's technically mid-engined)
The engine is revvy and powerful
The engine drives the rear wheels
The whole thing is lightweight
They're generally quite reliable cars, too

I'd get the one with the folding hard-top if you do go for one, as the soft-tops are an easy target for little scrotes with knives or broken bottles.

I love how we've gone from Lozz's £300 Celica to suggesting that he spends at least twice as much on a replacement.

Lozz - I've got a better suggestion than my Hyundai Coupe one -

My son is moaning for the car now so imight let him have it and il have have to grab sumat else,
im not allowed nothing these days,

Keep the Celica & tell him to go buy his own damn car...
