intermittent air blower / air con

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

intermittent air blower / air con

Post by poddack »

Sometimes when I get in the car, the blower doesn't always work. It wasn't the connection to the motor this time, I re-crimped that a while ago.

Wiggling the key in the ignition will make the blower work, also the key gets a bit warm.

Just fixed it this dinnertime by replacing the ignition switch, 9926.Y1 and £77.92 from the main stealers or £30 from ebay.

b*ll*x, it went off again tonight, it's a different connector on the blower motor, 4 wires including a thick red and thick black, the connector is burnt at the black one, a little wd40 and a wiggle has done the trick until I replace it.

Pity you hadn't read my thread on motor blower failure and saved yourself money and effort.
Burnt wires sound serious and could be the motor is not rotating while it has a full 12v @ 40 amps across it...

I did have two faults, the ignition switch was faulty hence the wiggling of the key making the climate control display and blower come back on.
And the tired old connections to the motor, I have tested the motor on a separate supply, it is not stiff and runs like a dream.
