Rapier airbag seat change to leather?
Hi all this site seems to be the oracle of wisdom with regards to Peugeot so i wondered if someone could help me i have a 202 406 Rapier with the standard cloth seats but with the added problem of and airbag and associated wiring. I have bought some leather electric seats with the loom ecu etc but when i take my old seats out i get and engine management light saying airbag fault as i have disconnected it to fit the new ones. The wires that i have disconnected are XXX and i am not sure how i can either loop them or whatever without setting the other air bags of but getting rid of the engine management light.

Re: Rapier airbag seat change to leather?
Hi there, welcome
Opps, I think you did a boo-boo
I wouldn't have thought you'd be able to set them off by looping them (not shorting? You a BT engineer?) but it'll still self-test a fault. I don't know about the possibility of sticking the guts from each airbag module under the seat somewhere, I've got no idea if you can take the buggers apart to do this. Or perhaps tell the ecu it doesn't have the seat airbags - there doesn't seem to be a difference in the control boxes for with/without, it just says "to be configured"
Anyone seen this option in PP2000?
Thought: Do the airbags need to be working for the MOT or is it a safety/insurance wriggling out of it thing?

Re: Rapier airbag seat change to leather?
3 solutions:
1. Put up with the light
2. Put up with the light for now, but keep an eye out for a leather interior with the airbags (post 2000) - that way it can come from a saloon or estate & it won't matter, just sell on the old non-airbag fronts with whichever rear bench you end up with.
3. Strip both seats & fit the leather covers & cushions to the Rapier seats, thus avoiding the need to faff about with all the wiring for the ECU as you will now have manually adjustable leather seats.
It can be done...

Any warning light on the dash will be an mot failure from January
So putting up with the light is only a short term option
I'd go along with Waue with options 2 or 3

Re: Rapier airbag seat change to leather?
Or just change the settings in the airbag system and turn the seat airbags off
Re: Rapier airbag seat change to leather?
Thanks all for the replies it seems as plod has said I cant ignore the light as that will get flagged as an MOT failure so I can either strip it down and make the leather fit or put the new ones in and change the settings in the airbag system to turn the seat airbags off but that the raises a new question in how do I get into that setting to change it? Steve firstly yes ex BT engineer and you referred to telling the ecu it doesn't have the seat airbags and control boxes how do I go about doing that? Thanks again all and sorry being a little green here with engine management issues.

Steve thanks I will hunt down Lee to see what advise he can give, as regards location I am in Benfleet in Essex “so you’re a motorbike man I assume” I have a ZZR 1100 which is the moré reliable form of transport…..thanks all again.
Re: Rapier airbag seat change to leather?
You can either turn them off in the SRS ECU settings.
Or use a resistor. If you plug your old seats back in [or get someone else with the same car] to measure the resistance of the airbags and then just fit a resistor for that ohm.
Don't know what it is on these, and I couldn't even have a wild guess cos a BMW is 22k ohms, whereas a Renault is only 3.3 ohms.
