yup the samurai is in group 6, great jeep, better than a landrover.
although there is smaller, a fiat panda 4x4 either the old shape one with a petrol or the newer shape panda with a diesel apparently a good enough off roader.

Clarkson tested the panda VS a landrover, it was a funny clip that. The 1.3 multijet is a good engine.FarmerPug wrote:yup the samurai is in group 6, great jeep, better than a landrover.

The 4x4 never came with the 1.3 Multi air, it was the old 1.2 lump my Mums got in her new FWD panda, and by god is it gutlessOdinEidolon wrote:Clarkson tested the panda VS a landrover, it was a funny clip that. MultiAir is for petrol, MultiJet is diesel. Here the Panda 4x4 comes with the MultiJet too - wonder why it soesn't in UK? It's the right engine, a small diesel engine in a small offroader.Bailes1992 wrote:The 4x4 never came with the 1.3 Multi air, it was the old 1.2 lump my Mums got in her new FWD panda, and by god is it gutlessOdinEidolon wrote:Clarkson tested the panda VS a landrover, it was a funny clip that. Up till now they have only done it wiht the 1.2 Petrol.
They stopped making the 4x4 and the 100hp here about 6 months ago for emmisions reasons.
My Mum wanted a 4x4 but got told we couldnt have a new one.

Re: Something a little bit more.. insurable
now i remember, the panda has 2 4x4 versions, the normal 4x4 which has the raised ride height, bigger rubbing strips and a black area in the middle of the front bumer. These came with the 1.2 petrol and 1.3 diesel.

Then there is panda cross which is more off roader looking with a lot of plastic panels, and apparently a diff lock, i think it has only been offered with the diesel.

Not quite a 4x4, but...
The other halfs Fiesta is in the bodyshop getting crash repair after a minor bump.
They gave her as a courtesy car a Kia Picanto.
Not something I would ever think of driving, but it is quite a funky little car. 1.0 engine and pretty basic (though it does have lecy windows and MP3 CD player) but raking it to make progress reminds me of my old Clio, it is pretty fun to be honest!
Not something I ever thought I'd say about a Kia, but it feels much better built than her Fiesta which in typical Ford style is falling apart after 40k!

What about a 306 HDi? I don't know how is insurance, but it is a properly fun car.

The Kia is a bit useless at hoofing round roundabouts, compared to the 406/GTV and even the boaty big Honda.

Re: Something a little bit more.. insurable
My mother in law has a kia Picanto, it is the worst thing i have ever driven, but then i am a big fella and its a small car so maybe the two dont go together, its also the thirstiest little thing i have had the displeasure to have to fill up, christ even my disco used less fuel than that thing, maybe it is because you have to drive it so hard to get anything out of the 1 litre engine, it felt like the throttle peddle and the car speed were completely alien to each other. I hated it.

the thing about kia and hyundai there is these huge warranties and your told in the adverts about 'quality' but when you sit inside one, and press all the buttons, and it doesnt really give that feeling.

406/GTV? Are you comparing the 406 to a GTV? I love my 406, but hell, the GTV behaves like a little Ferrari. It's a far superior car.sirwiggum wrote:The Kia is a bit useless at hoofing round roundabouts, compared to the 406/GTV and even the boaty big Honda.

Yes I am comparing the handling of my old 406 to my old GTV.OdinEidolon wrote:406/GTV? Are you comparing the 406 to a GTV? I love my 406, but hell, the GTV behaves like a little Ferrari. The GTV is like a mini-Ferrari, but to me the handling didn't inspire confidence, it understeered badly one time on a wet roundabout and nearly took the side out of a Saab, and it felt too fragile to chuck about. The suspension bushes were continually getting replaced.
The 406 was surprisingly chuckable, uncanny for a large comfortable saloon. Not quite a Lotus Elise, but still impressive.

My 406 with nackered shocks and nackered bushes handled just as well as my Focus does with half the mileage!
