Sat nav display problems

Post by stephen »

Hi, i have recently been having problems with the sat nav display on my 406. The problem is that there is a number of lines on the display which are slowly geting worse, its so bad now i cant even see the bit a the left hand side that shows fuel use. Its not really a problem as i use the sat nav very rarely but it is abit annoying as i like thinks perfect :cheesy: . Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem and the best way to fix it.

Hi,
it seems to be a comonproblem,
no ones fixed them as yet so ive heard, :(

Best bet is to keep your eye out on ebay for one, but theyre expensive and its hard to find one thats not faulty or has been tested properly,

Farmer p on here had fun getting one that actualy worked , iirc,

You just need the display part.

Unfortunately these displays are starting to get less common :(

Maybe i will try some local breakers yard and should be able to get a refund if it dont work properly. But just wondered if they are easy to fit. It could be that am alittle thick as i was looking at it today and cant figure out how the plastic which surrounds the display is removed to get access to the unit, any info there would be welcome :? Anyway Thanks for the Info

Hiya mate, welcome to the club :D

The plastic blanking plates either side just pop off, get a flat thing down the side and lever gently. That'll expose the fixings and the rest is self explanatory as they say. Make sure you get the right display though, there are 2 different ones. (Since you have sat nav you've got the more expensive display   ).

Just to clarify - on the face-lifted cars (1999/2000 onwards), there are two types of display.

The type you want has an Infra-Red receiver to the right of the screen. The screen itself is higher-resolution so that it can display the sat-nav graphics, but when you're sitting in a wrecked car in a scrap yard, that's not much help to you :D

The other one has two small black (unlabelled) buttons, one on either side of the screen. The screen itself is low-resolution (the individual pixels are fairly large), but again, you won't be able to tell that whilst in a scrapyard.

Earlier cars (pre-1999) had a different type of display entirely.

Well chaps, it seems like almost impossible to get hold of one of these displays, must have tried just about everywhere in the u.k. Anyway seems like the best way would be to take out the sat nav altogether and replace with a non-sat display, does anyone know which type would fit without changing the wiring and using the same screw holes, i have seen some of these radio type displays on ebay but not sure if they will fit in to mine, would a clarion cd radio fit in to mine ? If i can get one i will sell the sat nav and remote as it still works fine except for the display. Any info would be most helpfull.
