W Reg 110 HDI - What's it worth

Post by gumby6371 »

Hi all, had the pleasure of a drive in a W reg 110 GLX last night which has just been MOT'd and is now up for sale.
My mate does some work for a local second hand car dealer and basically gets them through the MOT so when I saw it on the drive I had to have a go :cheesy:

Good points - Interior very tidy, engine bay very clean, 108,000 miles so a lot less than my D8 and pulls like a friggin train on my 'gentle' test drive.

Bad points - Engine mounts are fubared, the thing made me feel see sick lurching even on tick over, clutch bites right at the top of the pedal release, big crack in bumper and it doesn't line up with the wings, usual dinks and dings (most of them should push out) and a few bump strips need changing, alloys need some attention.

Don't know how much the dealer wants for it yet but wanted to get an idea what it's worth as is and with the mounts and clutch fixed??

BTW it may be related to the clutch problem but the pedal was very light and not a lot of resisitance on the gear lever when changing gear, is that normal on a D9 with the hydraulic clutch??

I got offered £375.00 for my mint 1999 exec as a trade-in so if this dealer has just acquired it as a trade-in then it's likely to owe him just a few hundred pounds - he'll probably whack a screen-price on of £1,495.00 or something with a full MOT :|

Clutch biting high is "normal" difficulty engaging the gear lever could be to do with the engine/gearbox mounts pulling at the mechanism - try the gears with the engine off too.

You'd probably have to throw £300.00 at it using a garage for the engine mounts but you may also find the eggsauce flexi if shot too :|

I reckon no more than £500 to £700 IMO

Thanks for the quick response Welly, my mate's got the car until friday so I'll have a closer look at it over the next couple of days. The engine itself feels massively powerful compared to my old 1.9td. I'll start a list of faults to drive the price down.
Any tips on expensive stuff to look out for?

Trying to avoid the impulse to buy regardless after testing her out up the hill I live on, usually struggle to get third without a tail wind and lots of right foot, this thing hit fourth and was still pulling like a train when I crested the hill!!!!!

The mounts on mine were never quite right and the garage couldnt find an issue.
Made town driving unbearable.
Also, check for rust around the door bottoms and leading edge of the bonnet.

Squeeky/chirpy clutch noise indicates a worn DMF - a good bargaining tool but not really an issue unless the clutch is slipping regularly.

The main issues with D9 HDi's are engine mounts, egr valves, clutch/dmf, eggsauce systems, air con problems, crazy electrics (water in the car), in-tank pumps, ......oops not making them sound too good here am I

to be honest the clutch felt fine, I was just a bit alarmed at how high the bite point was, right at the top of the pedal. I'm used to my D8 being just under halfway up with a nice simple cable :D

I never noticed how high my clutch bites until I went on holiday a couple of years back to the lake district
I priced up a new clutch as soon as I came back
I think it might be usual as I'm still driving the car two years later with no effect

Well he's just come back to me with a price - £500, and as he's also got a breakers yard I can pinch any bits I need in with the price. Very tempted !!!!

£500 cant be bad. Get a price for getting the mounts done and youre sorted.

Something must have been seriously wrong with my T-reg 110 HDi then because it barely had enough power to de-skin a rice pudding!

I must go out one day and try some newer more powerful diesels... once I get over my V6 growl ;)
