An offer I am finding hard to refuse.

Post by DiscoPol »

Just logged into my Facebook and had this message from my cousin who lives in Singapore
My Bloody Cousin wrote: VIP Grid/Grandstand tickets, after party invitations. Come on cuz you can do it??????
now the question is, is it really worth 3,500 zloty (about £770) and the cost of whatever it is i have to buy/give/take the wife to, to get away with this?

the cost is only my flight only, im not counting lost earnings for the 6 days, well 2 days are weekends and i have stopped working weekends over the summer anyway, this effectively doubles the cost but its a once in a lifetime opportunity, right :? :? :? :?

I really do want to go :supafrisk:

EDIT: sorry for those that dont know, it is for the F1 in September.

Steve you are forgetting the long travel, the terrible weather (yes even in Singapore),expensive food, crowded and uncomfortable seating, the expense, the complete lack of hearing for 3 days afterwards, the smell and taste of burnt rubber and fuel that lingers in your olfactory passages for at least a week and the risk of being hit by something flying off an 800kg lump of carbon fiber as it smashes into the barriers at 200 mph +.

personally I love it :cheesy:

this will be or would be dependant on decisions my 7th GP in person, so i am fully aware of the views of folks who dont enjoy it for what it is, if you want to see the race, then tv is the only option, you will never see as much of the race there, as you will on the tv but its the whole experience.

Then again, on tv you will never experience as much as you will being there in person.

it will also be a good chance to catch up with my cousin and his lad out in their not so new adopted homeland,

if i go for this it will mean a few other little plans i have been making may have to go on hold for a while.

maybe its time to some serious thinking on this :? :? :?

Never been to a GP, but living down the road from Thruxton I've been to a few Touring Car races & I have to say, while it's nice to see it all in the flesh as it were, Steve is bang on with what it is like. I'd be even more p**sed if I'd paid GP prices.

Best way I've found is to attend testing days & free practice. I took the little man to the official test days at Thruxton & he got to see quite a few of this years Touring Cars along with a few Clios, a couple of Elises & various single seaters. We also had much more of a free roam around the paddock & were able to get up close to a lot of the cars. Even most of the drivers were quite chatty as they had none of the stress of a normal race weekend. Was quite strange seeing a racing Elise where Jack was as tall as the car. Best of all, it was free & there were none of the massive crowds of race days so he could run around getting excited to his heart's content.

British Truck Racing is on 14th August, so may take him down for that as he loves trucks.

Yeah I used to go to the BTCC practice / qualifying days then stay home on race day, as you say you get much better access and see plenty of action. I remember going to Donnington many years back and managed to get the autographs of all but 3 of the drivers just by wandering around the back of the garages. Also the BTCC race day coverage on ITV4 is now so good you get to watch every race including the support races if you so desire, just a shame it takes up 15% of the Sky planner

Disco, glad the decision is made and I'm extremely envious, but don't spend all your money

I went to Donnington twice. Went in 1994 for the Touring Car World Cup & again in 1995 for the DTM on tour. Met Giancarlo Fisichella on walkabout round the pits. Really nice guy & had plenty of time for people as he stopped for nearly everyone that walked by. Complete contrast to Dario Franchitti who was at the time the only British driver & just seemed to ignore everybody.

It's a shame they don't show the DTM on mainstream tv these days - was fantastic to watch when I used to be able to see it in the 90s.

I went to Donnington once... Saw Metallica and got sh*t-faced... Good times.
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
