2.0hdi 110 gearbox removal

This topic appears on here quite a lot .Can anyone tell me if it possible to remove the gearbox out of a peugeot 406 2.0 hdi 110 without dropping the subframe totally down .Is there an easier way of doing it as it looks quite tight for room

Be aware that this excellent article is for the V6 engine, not the 110 HDi.

The last time I helped change a clutch on a 110 HDi we didn't remove the subframe. I think we may have lowered it slightly, but we didn't remove it.
