HTC Sensation or Samsung Galaxy S2 - Discuss

Post by DaiRees »

I have a HTC HD2 at the moment and it's a brilliant bit of kit, only down side is the crappy windows mobile 6.5 operating system on it. I refuse to be sucked into the IPhone void. That's why I'm going for Android next, but which phone?? I just assumed I'd have another HTC 'cos this one's been so good, and I prefer the look of the Sensation, but all the reviews I'm reading say that the Samsung is (slightly) better.

It really is that simple, it's a 2 horse race.

This is some sort of mobile phone right?

I'd go for the one that can make a decent cup of coffee.

i want a s2 but how much do you pay a month? as orange wont give me one unless i pay 49.99 for the phone.
so iam looking around and if i want a free phone it looks like my line rental will be about 35 pounds
best deal ive had so far is with tesco at 30 pounds for about 700 mins but iam still looking [got about a week to go till end of contract]
but they did offer me a new htc[think it was the desire for free]
been with orange since they started[about14 years] but they dont care anymore but still feel a bit sad about leaving them as i have had good service.

I'm with Virgin on a recently expired contract, so I'm looking at a renewal. Today's negotiations were helped by the fact that the buggers overcharged me by £35 last month by forgetting to apply the inclusive data I've got  , so I'd rung up to complain and they were trying to trying to smooth the waters, they credited the £35 and then started talking renewals. They offered me the S2 with the same package I'm on now of 500 mins, unlimited texts and 1GB of data for £25 for 18mths or £20 for 24mths (600 mins on the 2 year contract, everything else the same).

I'm with Tesco and a Galaxy S2 for 35 quid a month and I seriously couldn't fault the phone. It's more than excellent and all it doesn't do and I wish it did is mobile air conditioning. That'd be very helpful right now at 35 degrees in Bulgaria  I've never even heard of the Sensation and I haven't seen it on the list of Galaxy S2 rivals so I can't be helpful there. All I can say is that the S2 is sleek, stylish, never broken down and is the best purchase in the phone category I've had so far - Much like a 406 really 8)

The way some of them are being advertised these days, you'd swear they do a lot more than that :supafrisk:

whats wrong with the iphone, i only have the old 3gs but it absolutley fantastic, the battery after i got the hang of the dimmer on the screen lasts lots longer now and using the thing is very nice, the touchscreen is very responsive and its great for going on the internet. I use the iphone more than the computer now for the internet as it saves having to load it up.

but if i couldnt get an iphone id have a htc, their touch screens and user interface are as good as it gets. and they feel nicely made.

They're both big heavy things, but the Samsung is about 30g (20%) lighter and 3mm (30%) thinner.

Samsung is 480 x 800
HTC is qHD (540 X 960)

To me it depends on battery life.

I have a Galaxy 3 which I bought for next to nothing in Germany - thing is, the battery lasts around a day, with lightish usage. Not impressed at all. Same goes for most of the phones these days.

Not that impressed with Android - Some days, I wish I had an iPhone.

£35 a month seems like an awful amount of money to spend on a phone. 02 unlimited £15 a month then the web bolt on which takes £7.50 out of my credit (at the moment where i live the coverage is 2g so the internets awfully slow but great when in a 3g zone) that leaves £7.50 for landlines and people not on 02.

I'm paying £35 at the moment.
Crap plan plus £12 for "tethering" -- for work.

I could get it down to under a tenner (without the tethering) for 18 months if I keep my crappy WinMo6.5 phone.
But I do quite fancy a Galaxy S II which they'll give me for nowt on my current rate.

What about a Motorola Atrix?

Largely because it is so thin, the Galaxy S II is smaller, by total volume, than a Motorola V3!
I think I want one.

The other half has a Galaxy S 2 and so does a guy at work and I'd personally go for it over the Sensation, which hasn't really wowed me.

I've got an HTC Desire at the moment though so either of them are much better than mine!

Both great dual core phones, both will have about the same battery life, both run the same OS.
The Samsung has the oLED screen, the Sensation has SLCD so the Sammy has the better screen.
The Sensation has HTC Sense UI which most people prefer to the Samsung ui (Touchwiz I think)
I'd say the Sensation has the better build quality and feels better in the hand.
Both phones can be rooted but I'm nt sure which has the most ROM support - I'd guess the Sensation as the Desire still has incredible ROM support.

So both are great phones, I have a Desire at the moment, rooted and running a custom ROM and drivers my phone isn't due for renewal for another year or more.
But if I were buying now I'd probably get the Sammy for the screen then root and install a custom AOSP (Android open source project) Android ROM.
