Hi everyone! My name is David, I got my Peugeot 406 today. It's a X reg LX HDi 90. Couple of things I noticed that needs doing -
I only have one key without a battery, so I have to lock manually.
Some knocks from front suspension
Engine management light

So next week I'm going to get the suspension sorted and cambelt changed, as the previous owner said it should be done some time soon (he didn't know the exact mileage)

Also the car needs really good clean, but otherwise I'm happy with it. MPG seems very good, the car pulls ok, some nice electronic stuff

Anything else I should check first place?

Hello David and welcome to the club,

knock from the suspension will probably be drop links, easy and fairly cheap to do.

have you checked your aircon? at that age the condenser may have rotted through, its a habit of the D9 im afraid

good move on the cambelt, better safe than sorry (although i never changed mine and never had any problems)

check the footwells for moisture when it rains as under the carpets down there, there is a multiplug that doesn't like getting wet

now get some pics done and posted up, we like pics

the eml light could be anything, get your codes read when you have the belt changed and move on from there, believe me there are enough people on here with extensive knowledge of the 406 to sort almost anything out(sadly im not one of em )

You have to get the carpet up to see whether it's wet.

Engine light: get the codes cleared and if you're lucky none will return.

Perhaps you should point out you were driving it until it went bang and weren't putting any more money into it. Fo a keeper it's a wise precaution, at the very least because you're not waiting for it to snap at the worst possible moment...

For the remote you need to get another key cut, new internals and find someone to synch it to your car. Or get the workings from the key in a breaker's, together with BSI & engine management ecu... There are also microchips inside the keys so you'll have to get the receiver from around the ignition lock and change the other key surround fing.

Get the codes reset first, modern cars seem to generate a lot of spurious codes that just confuse the issue, so once they're rest anything new is worth looking at.

Since the weather seems nice I will be spending the afternoon trying to clean the seats, don't know what has been done there but it all looks like a mess

Also will check that footwell connector, and something is making some vibrations in the engine bay (sounds like something hasn't been put in place properly)

Will try to make some pictures of my progress

Also quick question about the key fob: is this the only key fob I'm looking for or maybe I can try to make a flip key work on my car if I can get it with the right blade? Can I find out what kind of chip is it there without taking it apart? Should get it done next week.
