irratically breaking down

Post by srs1 »

hello, just bought a 2.0l petrol saloon 406 as a run around. made up it had a tow bar so i can tow my track car.

anyway, drove home perfectly with no issue's and had to wait till i could tax it. once i had, it has done nothing but cut out when driving.

it happens at any point, you'll be driving and just cuts out but then starts whilst you keep the car rolling along. it also jusp starts or starts on turn of the key. it is bad as we have a little baby and so avoid all main roads and motorways as worried it cuts out. it happens in any gear and at any rev/speed.

someone who owns a 106 said to me that he thinks it could be the temo sensor to the ecu. says the petrol are renown for it.

any thoughts on this, as would be great to be able to drive the car with more confidence.

many thanks

Hi there :cheesy:

First I've heard of a thermo sensor in the ecu :? The only thing I've heard that's there that can give problems is the fuel pump multi relay, which sits along side the ecu.

We do have a couple of resident auto electricians so you could wait to hear if they have any suggestions, otherwise changing parts one at a time until the fault clears, without any form of diagnosis, is the path to madness.

Btw what year is your car?

oredered a new fuel filter as the mrs says the car tends to do it mostly when the fuel level is low. my thinking is that there is debris in the tank causing a temporary bloackage in fuel and causing it to stall.

also gonna have a go at cleaning the step down motor as i see it's relitively easy to do and may/not help it.
