Cleaning the Engine Bay

Post by FarmerPug »

I took off the engine cover and gave the engine a clean using some engine degreaser and a brush, then washed it away with water and blew away the water away with an airline, then put some 3 in 1 on the area to stop any corrosion:

Here is pictures after i washed the degreaser away with water:

(i took the rail of wires off after the battery was disconnected so i could get the brush and cloth in round the engine better, and made sure any water in the plugs got blew out)

but my question is see them wee pits where in the picture you see water, when i started cleaning they were mainly a black liquid, but i know my car isnt loosing oil or water because i check that every week and in the whole year they have been the same. Is there any chance the injectors are leaking fuel, are you ever meant to change seals?

IS that what an HDi looks like?

Wheres yer fuel filter?

The black gunk I used to get in the little pits in my HDi, just think its a build up of dirt from the road / brake dust / topup spills etc. Not necessarily a leak.

ah water cant do no harm, the battery was disconnected, i didnt soak the ecu and any of the connectors got a good dose of 3in1 then blew out with the airline, cleaned it up nice.

The fuel filter is not in the photo just a bit closer to the grille, the hdi doesnt look too much different than an xud, its only the engine cover that makes it look all refined

Was being a bit sarcastic. My HDi 90 had the cover broke off, but it was bogging from the oily bits, never saw a clean one :)

That does seem a little foolhardy.

Does it still work? How long for?

i just decided to give it a clean, but it wasnt actually too bad across the engine, the degreaser just brings a just new shine. I normally give the engine bay a clean every month just this time i took off the engine cover, the last time i did it when i got it, there was leaves and a cigarette, as for the water my dad cleaned the engine the last time with a powerhose.

One thing why does peugeot give the hdi a plastic rocker cover?
