However
I check Auto Trader quite regularly looking for a cheap donor car for panels/trim etc and I keep seeing claims of 50-60 mpg's from a 1.9 XUD, now I quite often have my 3 year old in the car so don't (as a rule) drive like my ass is on fire but come on???.
Can you actually achieve 50-60 mpg's?
Short shifting and keeping it below the turbo band can help but 50-60mpg! Shirley it can't be done.
If it is possible it begs the question why they bothered developing the HDi
