Hello

Post by tm2204 »

Hello,

406 Coupe 2.2 HDi (D9) 2003 owner from ireland. It's my 4th (and best) 406 Coupe.

I'm a member of peugeot406coupe.com and have joined here to access more resource specifically right now to look into replacing my Cam and Aux belts as my car has 93k miles on it.

Do you guys have a 'How To Do' section and has anyone done the belts (especially Cam) replacement on a 2.2 HDi? I will get looking around but if someone has done therm and could point m in the right direction that would be great.

Thanks & looking forward to using this forum.

Hi & Welcome to the site. 8)

Unfortunately 2.2 HDi's are far less common in 406 saloons & estates, only 800 or so were ever registered in the UK. There's been a recent 'surge' in the number of 2.2 owners on the forum, but that's from 2 or 3, up to perhaps 10 - 12 today & that total includes a few coupes.

Having said that, I'd say this is a more 'hands on' forum.

I don't think there's a specific 'howto' for the 2.2, but this guide for an HDi 90 is a very good starting place. viewtopic.php?f=10&t=8229

I did the same job on my 2.2 about 6 weeks ago and can verify it's almost identical on our engines. The one critical difference is the camshaft locking holes are at the 4 o-clock position on a 2.2, not 8 o-clock as on the 2.0 engines. Other than that it's the same job.

When undoing the crank pulley retaining bolt, I borrowed two long extension bars, so I could comfortably tug on the breaker bar from beside the car, makes it much easier. I also had the Haynes book to refer to throughout and it does help.

On mine, I changed the belt kit, (belt, tensioner & idler) plus aux belt, tensioner & idler - felt like a bit of overkill, but mine's pushing 160k and was last done at 72, so I figured it's worth it.

Any questions, just let us know.

Thanks very much for the reply and the link

Yeah, i'm gonna take the same 'overkill' approach as yourself. I'm replacing the cam belt, idler & tensioner as well as the aux belt, idler and tensioner and prob the crankshaft pulley as well. Going to slip off the aux belt first and check the idler/tensioner and especially the crankshaft pulley as I have heard horror stories about this failing and taking the cam belt out with it

You mentioned you just finished the job yourself, were there any other specific points/issues I should look out for specifically for the 2.2 HDi? Anything that came across that might be useful?

Just finished replacing all my suspension links front & back as well as new discs & pads front and rear.

Next on the list will be a de-fap, a K&N air filter and possibly a remap. One thing at a time though :D

Dogslife, on the link you provided it mentions "dealer servicing manual you can download for free". Got any idea where I can get this?

Tks

Can't think of anything relevant.

Mine's de-fapped & remapped - I can thoroughly recommend it. 8) If you want any info, check out my 'howto's' in the Knowledge Base, or let me know if you've any questions.

Lads, here is a good picture guide of changing the cam belt on a 406 Coupe V6 by one of the lads on the 406 Coupe forum.

A good reference and some useful tips.

Dogslife, I came across this by you on one of the knowlwdge base articles: "Well, I've reprogrammed mine to recognise the r/c plip again, (which it refused to do after disconnecting the car battery)"

How did you do that as something similar happened with my Coupe; it just stopped recognising the r/c plip. I have to use the key in the door.

Thanks.

Use PP2000 to get the car to 'learn' the key codes - you need the 4-character pin code too.
