Bloody Tripping Hazards a.k.a door seals?

Honestly... what's the point in having 2 lots of door seals- those outside ones with the clips that just shear off have turned both driver and passenger sides of my car into major hazards... nearly munched the floor yesterday getting out of the drivers door.

I seem to remember seeing a post on here from a taxi driver with his solution involving some tigerseal (or something similar)... Graeme!?

I should really get round to sealing mine back on, I clip it almost every time I get out of the car, but it's not quite come off enough to cause a hazard yet, probably not long before it does though!

After a couple of beers- climbing out of the OTHER side of the car I daren't forget to mention I nearly fell into a river!

Those weather strips are an unfortunate design, you can keep a healthy supply of replacement clips handy or try and stick the damn thing along its length. If you stick it down you may have a messy job later in trying to replace the seal (they do get tatty) but I suppose if you use a glazing silicone sealant then it should peel away easily enough later on.

I was immensely proud of my new perfect drivers-side strip for almost 18 months until one day I forgot to do the 1-2 foot shuffle well clear of it and smashed 2 clips straight off

As for the passenger side I was reluctant in bothering to explain the procedure, the purpose and reasoning behind it all so just had to pray for luck or suffer the damage

Another unfortunate side effect of the design is that the little 'poppers' drop through into the cill (sill?) and possibly lead to blockage of the drainage holes and begin the rusting process - then you're in trouble

I think you'd be better off getting new seals and clips and sticking and cliping the new seals on. That way they should last a fair while before needing to be replaced.

if it were to cost more than £10- I don't think I'd bother. I'd be more inclined to just cement them to the car in their current state... even if they are a bit "tatty"

Stuck mine with a product called CT1 its a bit expensive around a tenner a tube but is a very strong adhesive and can be used for lots of applications .....Rob

At the 406 meeting RWB had a bag of the clips hanging around in his car- so he let me take the amount required (~16 wasn't it?) and I knocked all the broken clips out and re-clipped the buggers job done .... for now xD!

On ebay you can get the clips cheap - 40 for £4 odd.

I found the best thing is to clip it back, i need to get a new pair of seals, my new car has had them removed!!

If you do remove them..remember to block up the holes as the sills will rot out.
A long strip of gaffer tape along the entire sill after cleaning up might help.

i remember getting 2 new seals on ebay last year for £25 some new clips and they are easy changed i couldnt remove the old clips without the going into the sills so i put lots of waxoyl in there to stop rattles and rust

So it is possible to purchase the new seals along the bottom section of the doors?

Mine are knackered - mainly due to age and they wouldn't be worth sticking back on!
